Well into spring and summer on its way, that’s what we should be thinking in May getting the cars ready for a season of top down open road driving but so far the weather has not been good at all.

19 cars made it on our National dive it day to kersey mill with the majority taking the run to Petals Tearoom for coffee and pit stop before motoring on to Kersey mill for the day. One car dropped out at the coffee stop with a possible carburettor problem, which I believe cleared itself when on his way home so unfortunately he didn’t make it to Kersey. A couple of us had driven to the mill starting in Suffolk and like the others had a very nice drive in the early all be it chilly sunshine. The forecasted rain started just after we arrived and parked up then the heavens opened, so we all made a b line for shelter in various places some in the Mill some in the coffee shop and some just under umbrellas. It was a real pity as it spoilt the day not to mention the grass that we were parked on, with just a slight incline to get out onto the roadway cars were finding it really difficult due to this section of grass becoming a Mud bath, but after some rally style driving by some we all managed to get off and make our way home. Many thanks to Denis Parsons for organising our drive it day this year.

Our next event was the May Day at Standon street fare, 9 cars met up on the A120 location chosen by Gordon Welch who had organised this event, many thanks to Gordon, in pretty warm Sunny weather some even made it with Tops down. This event is a real traditional street fare with the street closed off and stalls of all kinds set up, a band playing half way down the street, entertainment on the green a real old fashioned Mayday gathering. A great day out for all.

Both pub meetings have been well supported with numbers in the 30’s despite the cold dark evenings, so don’t forget 2nd and Last Thursday of each month at the Farmhouse and Cricketers, details in” We’re only here for the beer”
