Our February 2017 visit to Drax Power Station with Vale of York Group

Our February 2017 visit to Drax Power Station with Vale of York Group

12th February saw 29 people from EasTRiding Group heading off in their everyday cars to Percy Arms, Airmyn for a good lunch. The day was dark, wet and miserable. Not TR-ing weather at all, but we still got 29 out. Well done guys. After lunch we drove off to Drax Power Station, where we met up with some of the guys from Vale of York Group as we had a conducted tour organized. In the flat areas around Goole the enormous cooling towers dominate the landscape, and are prominent from the Wolds too. This was Britain's largest coal fired power station, producing 8% of our electricity needs. It still produces that amount of electricity but now half of that is produced from North American forest floor waste material as biomass, shipped to Hull and then by train to Drax. A very interesting tour of this enormous site, with massive equipment to match. Our February event was organized through Vale of York Group's Keith Warren. Thanks to Keith.
