camshaft end float

Just fitted new camshaft (150bhp) and when the keeper plate is done up there is no end float cam will turn but feels tight will this free off or have i overlooked something

The end float should be 0.004” - 0.008”, if it’s tight there is something not right & you should investigate; usually they are loose where the keep plate has worn!

 

Did you get a new keep plate with the cam? Have you checked if the clearance between the keep plate & the camshaft groove is OK with the cam out of the car? It’s possible the cam could be binding in the block! It’s possible the keep plate is not flat or even the slot in the cam has been machined undersize. If you can’t get the required clearance off the car, I would go back to whoever supplied the cam & ask why; you could use a non standard thickness keep plate but that’s not really the answer.
