Fog Lamp problem

Recommended Posts

Hello again!

Almost there :)

My TR7 is a 1980 model and for MOTing should have a fog lamp fitted. There is, however, no evidence of one ever having been fitted, although, as might be expected, the wiring to front and rear and the switching on the centre console are all in place.

So, I have purchased a fog lamp for the rear of the car. When plugged in at the rear and with a wire taken to earth, it lights up. Hurrah! My problems are, however, as follows:

1. Nothing lights up on the instrument panel to tell me the fog lamp is on. I believe a warning lamp is required for the MOT?

2. The bulb the lamp came with wasn't working. I have put an ordinary indicator type lamp in its place. Should a higher wattage lamp be fitted?

3. Where should I attach the bracket to on the fog lamp - bumper or body (its an original Cibie fog lamp)?

Any advice on these questions would be much appreciated.

Thanks AGAIN!!! :):):)

Firstly if your car was first registered before Aug 1980 you don't require a rear fog lamp.

Secondly, not sure about the wattage, but would think it would be OK for MOT if it looked about as bright as brake lamps. Probably likely that the indicator lamp in the fog lamp switch has blown, (It won't come on by the way until the switch is in the fully down position, and you have your headlamps on or sometimes you can have a bad connection to it, try moving the leads to the switch around.

Thirdly the bracket mounts to the back of the rear bumper, if you only fit one it should be on the drivers or offside of the car.
