saxchappy
Could anyone please supply any handy hints and tips for removingthe crankshaft pulley bolt from a 2.0L engine out of the car? I've read on the wider web of some drastic measures taken with the engine in. The original BL instructions don't give any clues for engine out removal. Any thoughts? BTW, what size is the pulley bolt? Many thanks in anticipation, Kevin ???
Rhodri
Try using an air powered impact wrench- it works in a series of hammer blows, like the tyre depots use.
rosey
Hammer and chisel worked for me, and someone before me it's brass so it shouldn't sieze into the crankshaft. I didn't have a big enough spanner in the box so I can't tell you the size. Dave
CraigAddison
An inch and a half AF socket and a long shifter bar does the trick, lock the flywheel with the gizmo that bolts through the one of the holes on the engine backplate, (I bought mine from a VW specialist when I had my aircooled VW) and undo, no messy chisel marks on the bolt & you can torque it up correctly on rebuild. saxchappy
Thanks again to everybody for the assistance. The 1 1/2 " socket did it, on the end of a torque wrench, with one of my sons caerfully 'jamming' the crankshaft. The bolt undid without putting up much of a fight:laugh:
