viscous fan problem?

Hi,

The viscous fan on my TR7 is well and truly gone, screaming and rattling away like crazy. I have removed the whole pulley/coupling/fan assembly from the car expecting to see how the viscous coupling is attached to the pulley assembly,  but there is no visible way of taking them apart. Moss/Rimmer show them as separate parts - does anyone know how you get these apart? and join them back together?

Any help is much appreciated,

Thanks

Colin

The coupling is held onto the pulley with what is called a tolerance ring(bearing). It is this that has probably failed. You can try and replace this ring(about £1.50)but normally you will find that it will fail again soon after.

I would recommend either a new unit or upgrade to an electric fan system.

Hope this helps

Steve
