Ive found a very nice '74 import that has had a RHD conversion, is there any real risk in buying this car. It has a full MOT. Few rust spots on the body work but sill appear OK. You must get under the car and check where the suspension mountings join the chassis - four front -four back( trailing arms) if cracked -don't bother with car. Also check carefully where inner wings join outer wings - front is visible under bonnet, rear is more difficult. Look carefully under headlights for new paint or bubbles. Lift carpets and examine all edges where floor joins sills and bodywork. If it clunks when you drive off or change gear there could be a problem. These are not in any order of importance but are all important. Doubtless you will get more replies offering more or different advice. There are a lot of pitfalls to catch the unwary or inexperienced when buying a classic and the TR6 is no different. Main problems; Rust, rust and more rust [chassis and body] Chassis cracks [ front suspension turrets and diff pins] Engine thrust bearings Clonking drive [6 UJs and 2 sliding splines] If it's a conversion has it been done properly, and is it still fitted with the low compression US head and Stromberg carbs [which is gutless] Best of luck with your search, take your time and get a good one Ron Quote Link to post Share on other sites

You don't give any indication as to price or whether it has had a body off chassis rebuild, from what you given, £2,500 - £4,500 could be a fair price, but even at that it could be a bargain or a shed.
