Richard Crawley Posted April 2, 2004 Report Share Posted April 2, 2004 Bazz, you don’t seem to have drawn much luck; I am in Essex & pass on my own recent experience for what it’s worth. I enquired at several engine-remanufactures & machine shops in the area & although the machining costs were all fairly similar, they mostly wanted rather high prices for the components & were not particularly keen for me to source these myself & free issue them. I was also concerned that the cylinder bore refinishing needs to be done correctly to allow proper bedding in (left with a honed finish) A lot of high oil consumption problems are being experienced on older engines nowadays due to the cylinder bores being refinished to modern standards & then they never bed in correctly! I have always rebuilt my own engines in the past but when I priced it all up, I found it did not make economic sense & was going to cost me around 20% more for the privilege of doing it myself, with no warranty1 In the end I got TRGB to do it for me, including a stage 2 lead free conversion & dynamic balance of the rotational assembly.
