"Clinging" sound when releasing the clutch

Recommended Posts

73 PI, + OD. Some gentle "clinging" sound emerges from the rear driving train when releasing the clutch in 1st gear (only then) nothing there when driving . Anything I should worry about or refit or change. Just have the car for a few days so have to get used to all the noises and the worries of things braking down on a 34 y/o car.

If it only happens in first gear, its unlikely to be related to the drive train, more likely to be associated with the gearbox; difficult to tell without further info as it could be anything! Are you sure it's not the exhaust rattling on the chassis where it passes through the cruciform.

That sounds more like the clutch release bearing singing a bit, have you been through any deep puddles or floods - has it only happened since this spell of hot weather?

Yep, just recently. Deep puddles or floods, not sure, not me perhaps the previous owner but not very likely. Only own the car for a few days, and just happened to notices it after buyin it, may therefore be.

You may right though, anything to be done here or just leave it?

Hi jobster, yes, there's things that can be done - strip out the inside of the car and get gearbox out - can you live with it as it is? It almost certainly won't damage anything more than itself, so leave well alone and see what happens with it.

:lol::lol: ,

anyway, as long as there are no things breaking up, I guess I'll live with it, and yes, see what happens.
