Thanks guys the thing though is that Racetorations pump is far more expensive.

In Moss's site there is an uprated water pump (six bladed) that looks as a good idea for us poor souls in the hot weather of Greece.Has any of you guys fit it and if so does it makes any difference?
thanks George

My tr4 leaks ,as usual, from the rear crank oil seal and not that much (half a pint every 1000 miles). The oil follows a very mysterious route and through the handbrake cable ,drips just under the gearbox -under the back of the engine as well-and some times after a fast drive under the right back of the car following the chassis rail.
What I want to point out is that the leak looks much worse than what it actualy is and also to chek that if it realy is the gearbox that's leaking and not a similar case as mine.

Thank you all for your replies,I also use the overdrive as a fifth gear only ,the crunching of third gear came to my notice three days ago when I forgot the overdrive engaged.

Hi all
A question for overdrive experts (none here in Greece I am afraid so please do not be afraid to express your ideas).
As you may remember in a previous post I am experiencing a periodic noise when in overdrive ,between 2500-3000 rpm something like a thum-thum-thum... you get the idea. Also I am having a crunching noise from the gearbox when upshifting or downshifting in third gear, something like the clutch not engaging fully, only in ovedrive.
The gearchanging in non-overdrive is perfect.
Do you suggest to forget using overdrive and when the economic situation in this poor country and its people (including me) gets better go for a new or reconditioned unit or may be something fixable?
Your help will be highily apreciated
thanks George

Roger it was proffesionaly flushed three months ago and everything was fine except the brownish coolant color ,today I just used the garden hose.
Thanks for the idea Pete.

I did all you are mentioning except the jacking thing Roger .I also believe that it has to do with air locked inside the system because there is no other logical explanation.Thanks.

In my last topic 21/1 "BROWN COOLANT" I decided to change the coolant after cleaning the whole cooling system again, which I did today.Fresh non 'ORGANIC ACID' staff filled the rad with much care taken to free any trapped air during the prosses.
What happened though during my way home is something I cannot explain. The car was working at 85-90 degrees when before coolant change, was at 75. All other conditions (ext.temperature traffic etc.) were the same.
Can somebody please drop some light in this strange phenomenon.
Thanks George

Thank you I'll flush it once more and see what happens ,thanks also for the coolant type info.

Hi there
After pressurising and flushing the cooling system of the car, I changed the coolant with a fresh one. After some time I noticed that its color started turn into brownish like rust.
I suppose there is stil some residue into the system that mixes with coolant.Do you think this is the case ,therefore should I flush it again and put new coolant in or something else is happening?
The old coolant before pressurising and flushing was perfectly clean.
Thanks George

Thank you, I start right now, hope I finish without needing new door cards.

Please how is possible to remove door cards (THE INTERIOR TRIM). It seems that the opening and window handles are to tight against the trim and nothing can fit in between to pull any securing clips .
Thanks George

I've just measured my car, totaly original specs.

Exactly 40cm from wheel center to underside of wheel arch. That is 15.75".

Hi again, this time I would like to have your oppinion in this.
When I engage the overdrive and only between 2500 to 3000 rpm approx. a thumping periodic sound like thumm- thumm -thumm can be heard. This is happening in all gears at the same rpm, after 3000 it stops. It is not loud more like a resonance somewere.
Any ideas?
Thanks George

Less than 70 C in summer ?Mine works at 85 C and once or twice more than that (heavy traffic).
Anyway I dont think is efficient or healthy to run at this temperature.(70 C) either.
What do you think guys?
Thanks George

Thanks guys I feel better now ,so my local hardware store which also sells cardboards (....you know for under the car)

Menno thanks for the loads of info in your reply .The thing is though in case there is a crank seal leak, that as Bill sugests, if I got it right,TO LIVE WITH IT as long as oil does not enter the gearbox causing clutch slip.
Did I got it right?
Thanks George

Yesterday I saw an oil spot under the car at the point where the gearbox is mounted to the engine.Lifting the car in stands (not so comfortable) I realised that the oil was all over the front (towards the engine) of the black metal plate situated there.I dont know how this plate is called ,but it's aprox 1mm thick, vertical and just in front of the connection of the gearbox towards the engine..
As I said puting my fingers on it ,it was full of oil .probably due to a leak from the point where the breather tube attaches at the engine block or from the back of the oil swamp.
The thing that terrifies me is if it can be from the crank oil seal. Is this actually the point where such a leak apears?
Thanks George

Thanks Roger.

Sorry but what is the restrictor Roger ?
Yes I do use DOT 5 silicon fluid should I change to DOT 4 ?

Hi all a new gremlin struck. My front brakes only stick for five - six seconds after I release the pedal.I replaced my BF braided hoses to new ones but nothing changed.Master cylinder is OK,the car has original brake system without servo.
Do you thing I shall look for something else before dismantling the calipers to check for sticking pistons?
Thanks

Thank you again guys I've allready removed the oil cooler aside and tomorow noon (35 C expected) I will give it a try. One other thing though is that the indicator gauge I have, reads at the center 70 C ((160 F aprox.) and up to 100 C,the ones shown at Rimmer Bross catalogues read at the center 85 C and 120 max. What I am saying is that when the needle in my gauge stays midway between 70 and 100 C is actualy 85 C ,quite normal I guess.
Does anybody by the way knows what speedi sleeve should I order along with the pinion oil seal (dimension ,code No) because nobody seems to now enything about their existance in Greece, and I would like to have it delivered before dismantling to take measures.
Thanks again George

Thanks guys you've been most helpfull,I think I relocate the oil cooler and all be OK.
Overflow

After a ride I noticed a small amount of antifreeze liquid at the floor.escaping from the overflow hose of the radiator. The car had'nt overheated and this was the first time I've noticed something like this.I havent recently add any liquid and this did not happen in my next ride.
What do you think is happening,is air trapped somewhere in the cooling cirquit?
There is a 7 lbs printing on the radiator cap.
Thanks George
