  1. Hi and a big thank you to everyone who replied to this one. I've found the cause and 2 people had got it right. The pads are moving in the calipers -when on a ramp with the front jacked up you can clearly see and hear the pads moving up to hit the top of the caliper when rotating the wheel. Time to buy a pad fitting kit = will try eBay as one of the responders bought one there. Thx again.

  2. Hi everyone - last weekend my 1974 TR6 decided to break down 20 miles from home. After a faultless 200 miles on the day we traversed a roundabout and then continued for a mile or so along a dual carriageway with a coughing and spluttering engine. The car would not obey the throttle and it would surge forward then slow right down , then surge forward. Eventually we parked in a layby and the engine died. It would start and then immediately die and it did this several times. The pipework near the fuel pump (Bosch replacement 8 years ago) was vibrating and there was a loud noise from the pump area that sounded a bit like a sick elephant - lots of groaning and surging noises! The breakdown truck arrived 30 minutes later and by then the engine started fine. I was able to drive it onto the truck and later to drive it off and into my garage. I presume that driving round the roundabout caused the fuel to swill around and upset the flow into the pump. I have since checked the fuel level, suspecting i was nearly out -(although the gauge showed half to three quarters full) but was only able to get 32 litres into it, meaning there was already about 16 litres present when the problem occurred, so the fuel was not particularly low. The problem may be related to a noisy pressure relief valve - when the car goes below half full there is sometimes a continual loud booming noise from the near side lower rear of the car and i've been told it's the pressure relief valve. Has anyone else had similar experiences and how did you solve the problem? I do not want to put the car into the garage until i've got a more accurate diagnosis. Thx - Clive

  3. Hi everyone - i've a couple of questions that you might be able to help with, as follows:

1.any idea what could be causing the following? I had my 1974 TR6 converted to wire wheels when i bought it. Now that the weather is improving and the car is being used, i've noticed a noise coming from the offside front wheel (and possibly from some of the others too, but not sure)- it's as though something is hitting the spokes as the wheel turns and it's quite loud and rhythmic, increasing with the speed of the car. The odd thing is that if you apply the brakes the noise stops and as soon as you lift your foot off the brake pedal, it resumes. There are no broken spokes. Any ideas much appreciated.

Second question - what's a reasonable average mpg to expect from a TR6 (it has an electronic ignition if that makes any difference)? Thx again.
