  1. Hi

Thanks for the replies.I see that Rimmer Brothers sell 2 types one being around £20 more than the other. Is the more expensive likely to be better fit.

  2. Hi

I'm about to replace outer sill on my TR6 and wondered if anyone could suggest the best place to buy them.I believe some of the sills are made from thinner steel and also hard to get good fit. Thanks for any help.

  5. hi

I'm going to paint my bootlid.Previously it was done in cellulose. On searching for information on cellulose I find that it has been made illegal. These sites are around 3 years old and was wondering if this was true. Is there a good water based paint I could use.I always thought cellulose was fairly safe.

    Thanks for any replys

  6. Albert, on my LHD car there is a threaded hole on a boss just in front of where the steering column connects. This hole takes a grease fitting to lube the R&P but when it is not doing that it takes a blanking plug that also secures the ground connection (two black wires on a ring terminal).

There is also a ground strap around the donut connector to provide a path around the rubber.

Thanks for reply.Ihave the ground strap around the donut connector. On my rack there is no threaded hole you mention.

  7. hi

I recently replaced the steering rack in my tr6.On checking the horn I find it does not work. After checking the electrics i find no earth avalable on steering.I've looked for somewhere to earth the steering column but no luck. The old one had a bolt on the steering rack where this went but this one does not.Have thought of drilling and put a self tap screw but am worried I'll get swarf in the rack.I got the rack from Moss and was wondering if anyone had the same problem and how they solved it.Thanks again for any help given.

  8. Hi Bert

I spent a lot of time trying to get the wipers on my 6 working correctly........

The switch on my car was a replacement but not fitted correctly.

After much puzzlement i worked out how to wire the two speed plus park.

Assuming a CP series Dash and one of the new 'chrome' fronted switches then from the top down you want the wires :

    Fast feed to motor

    Ignition +

    Slow Feed to motor

    Park feed from motor.

I don't know the colours right this second but can get them if you need them !

PS, its very important to get the wiring right as the motor shorts to earth during the park phase and if you have the wiring incorrectly setup this would be bad !

    Steve

    Thanks for reply

    Is the following true

Fast feed to motor to 1

    Ignition + to 2

Slow Feed to motor to 4

Park feed from motor. to 5

thanks. If you could give colours would be very helpful

  10. 15/20 inches would be a normal range for a carb engine.

The PI engine depending on cam will give nearer 8/12 inches, mine has 7.

I would not expect the needle to fluctuate as much at 2 in. A minor flick - more a shake - is normal in an engine with a performance camshaft due to valve overlap, but 2 in is rather a lot.

It suggests a transitory loss of vacuum. I would look for a sticking valve, by idling with the rocker cover off, although it could be hard to see. Failing that I would suspect one or more valves not well seated, or the valve gaps closed up.

Another possibility is worn valve guides - if you let the engine idle for 30 secs then give a sharp blip of the throttle, do you get a puff of oil smoke out of the exhaust?

Before dismantling anything I would however check the reading by T-ing off the hose to the servo. The metering unit has a diaphragm which might be leaking - although that brings its own symptoms of course - whereas the servo hose should give a steady pull.

Given that the engine has been standing, I would also check the compressions, as sticking rings may affect vacuum performance.

Has this problem come on suddenly, or has it crept up on you?

Thanks for reply. The car is a 1971 Pi and was running ok 5 years ago.

  11. Hi

My engine is not running well at the moment with eractic idle.I've renewed all the fuel line including pump, prv and metering unit, also all the ignition side. Also set timing with strobe.I put a vacuum gauge in the metering unit vacuum pipe going to air inlet. The reading I get is 8-10 with the needle fluctuating very quickly between these readings at idle of 850rpm.Searching the internet all seem to give a reading of 15-20 with steady reading generally.Could someone tell me the normal reading for the tr6,and should the reading be steady. The car had been standing for 5 years before this. Thanks again for any help

  12. Albert, if you are still in need I could take some pictures and mail them to you by private mail. I have two seats from my 1970 TR6 stored away since 1975, they are European spec.

Thankyou that would be very helpful.

  13. hi

I have been trying to cover 1971 tr6 seats for the last 8 months on and off,but feel I am not able to get them to look right. These are the older type with 3 piece back piece unlike the single back cover on the later ones which i have seen various items on covering them. Some photos would be very helpful especially the top and back part of them.I have found covering the bottoms easy enough. thanks for any help.

  15. hi

I.m in the process of putting new trim in my 1971 tr6. Does anyone know of any pictures regarding the foam placement on the wheel arches. It comes in 2 peices, a straight one and the arched one.How far up the wheel arch does the arched one go.Do you put the staight one first followed by the arched one,in which case a lot will have to be trimmed off. Thanks for any help.

  16. Hi

Thanks for previous help. A couple of weeks ago I accidently shorted the white wire by the fuse box,I believe it goes to the petrol pump. There was a lot of smoke and the white wire melted. The 3 fuses in my tr6 are 35A.What is the point of a fuse this size if all that happens when you get a short circuit is the wire melts. Thanks for any replies.
