  1. Hi,

Now I have to replace a windscreen glass to my TR3A because of damage by a stone.

Should be the windscreen glass flat or bent? The currently installed glass is bent but I am not sure if is it original or not. The upper “U” frame of the windscreen looks like flat.

Thank you in advance for your advice.

    Regards,

    Ondrej

  2. Hi guys,

    Hello everybody,

I have TR3A LHD and now I am currently in the final stage of a renovation. Hopefully it will be finished within few weeks.

I’d like to kindly ask you for information about proper positron of a dip switch of headlamps.

The switch is currently mounted in a metal holder which is fixed by screws in a depression of the left inner plate of a bulkhead. I am not sure, if this is the proper position or the holder is the original or self-made by a previous owner.

My next question is closely connected with my first question about dip switch. If the above mentioned position is proper, should be the holder with the switch mounted over the carpet or shall be the holder mounted directly on the plate and shall I cut the carpet through and get through the switch?

Thank you in advance for your advice. If possible I would appreciate a picture of a proper position.

    Regards,

    Ondrej

  4. Hi Jesus,

thank you for your comment. It seems to me more meaningful to buy new one instead spending time with home-making. I will spend my limited time for another parts of my TR.

    Best regards,

I fabricated my cubby box by myself, using cardboard, and plain white wood glue. I followed the structure of the original or aftermarket boxes, as seen in photos and dimensions supplied by the friends in the forum. Then I glued some very light grey carpet material in the interior, but for better results, it could have been painted with some flocked-finish paint (which I had not available).

The box can be made with two pieces of cardboard: one for the bottom and one for the side wall. The most difficult task is perhaps bending the cardboard thank makes the side wall. I managed this by using a piece of 16 mm thick plywood shaped like the bottom and wrapping the cardboard around it and nailing it to the plywood, to keep the shape. You should leave some flaps along the edge that has to math the bottom. The other side of the box has to keep the shape of the opening, so using a second piece of plywood can help. This piece has to be glued along its edges. For that I used a strip of cardboard and white glue. Then you can remove the pieces of plywood and the bottom can be glued to the flaps.

Well, perhaps it sound too complicated (and difficult to understand because of may English)… I can send some photos of the finished box.

In all the results was very decent, and probably looking into the box, nobody would know that it was home-made.

However, I am not sure if now, after all the experience, I would not buy directly an aftermarket one.

  5. Hi all,

I have got my TR3A (LHD – imported from the USA) unfortunately without cubby/glove box.

Does have anybody experience with making a copy of cubby box himself? I would appreciate any drawings with measurements or instructions.

I am also willing to buy your surplus or unneeded box.

Thank you in advance for your attention.

    Best regards,

  6. Hello Ondrej,

Welcome on this forum and welcome in the wonderful world of TRs! I know from experience that visiting this forum and reading all kinds of old topics is very helpful! I've hit the 'search-button' on this page many times and most of the time there was an answer for my questions. I think it's also wise to join the TR Register and become a member. There's a lot of additional info in the magazine every month and there's a CD-Rom from the Register with loads of info, not found on this forum. (Old magazine articles 'how to..' etc).

All nuts are non-metric (as we Europeans are used to). You'll have to buy a 'inch-set', usually referred to as 'AF'. Most well-equiped tool stores sell these spanners. I'm sure they are available in the Czech Republic as well. If not, there are a lot of webshops around that sell these spanners. Just perform a search on google. Mind you, try to buy the best quality you can afford! Good quality tools makes working on a car a lot more pleasant!

There's one brand, Metrinch, that is suited for metric and non-metric nuts and bolds. Again, perform a search.

I hope that you enjoy tinkering and driving your TR as much as the most of us do! And... please post some pics of your car!

    Regards,

    Hi Menno,

thank you for your replay. Of course, I know about AF measurement used on British cars.

I have found many spanners/sockets sets in local shops. But they contain instruments in different sizes. My aim is to choose the most usable and missing pieces buy extra.

That is why I ask for measurement used on TR3A.

  7. Hi all,

Please, could you indicate, what are the most recent measures of screws and nuts used on TR3A and is necessary to have them?

I have become new happy owner of TR3A. I would like to equip my garage with appropriately instruments (mainly spanners and sockets).

Thank you in advance for your attention.

    Best regards,
