  1. As the Bogey Times are based on BHP/Te having a 5litre with loads of power may be a disadvantage.

We actively dissuade Official Protests, it is not in keeping with the Championship.

The axle is perfectly OK as specified.

I have never, if 20 years of Sprint & Hillclimbing, seen or heard of the issues you suggest Motorsport Mickey!

    Roger

  2. Our Championship has no requirement to comply with FIA, Appendix K, or Homologation of whatever sort; simple compliance with our Regulations and the MSA Blue Book as applicable is all that is required.

Roadsport requires wheels as originally fitted and for steel wheels these were:

    TR2 15 by 4

    TR3 early 15 by 4

    TR3 late 15 by 4.5

    TR4/4A 15 by 4.5

    TR5/250 15 by 4.5

    TR6 15 by 5.5

    TR7 13 by 5.5

It is the responsibility of the entrant to ensure that the car complies with the Regulations and the data submitted on the Technical Declaration. In the eighteen years that I have been involved there has never been a requirement for a car to be scrutineered to assess compliance.

  3. Hi Hamish,

The facts are that until the MSA approves our submissions we do not have a Championship, and therefore there is nothing to enter!

This is an extremely unusual situation at this time of year, previously we have had approval in December or early January, but there has been major delays at the MSA due to staff changes etc. This problem has affected everybody in the sport and there are still many organisations awaiting approval. It is possible for the MSA to request changes to the submitted Regulations before approval.

In due course everybody who has shown an interest will receive by e-mail the Regulations, Technical Declaration, Registration Form and Programme of Events for 2017. If I receive completed applications with payment I will process them within one day, to allow events to be entered.

Please note that it is up to competitors to declare the BHP and weight of their car and hence proposed Class. Only if there appears to be a discrepancy is that questioned.

    Hope this helps.

    Roger

  4. Hi Eddie

There are plenty of TR6s competing in Class 2 on 15inch rims so it shouldn't be difficult finding a decent tyre. Certainly agree with Tom (above).

Why not post a question on our Facebook page - I am sure you will get plenty of advice.

I personally use Vredestein Sprint Classic, they are the control tyre for the Jaguar XK race series so must be pretty good.

  5. Hi Derek,

Many competitors use A048 in roadgoing class, but in our Championship you would be on Class 2 as A048 were listed as 1B. The specific A048 tyres now listed in 1B are standard fitment on Lotus Elise and are therefore being designated compliant road tyres by Yoko. As A048 generally can't comply with modern Euro legislation they are designated as "For Racing" and hence been listed as 1C by the MSA. As long as the tyres are road legal and have the E mark they can be used in our Championship.

You might get some better feedback of experience if you post the question on our Facebook page TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship.

    Regards

    Roger

  6. Gents.

For Sprints and Hillclimbs under MSA Regulations cars built before 31st December 1961 don't require ROPS. For Roadgoing Series Production Cars of any age ROPS are recommended in accordance with K1.6.1 and K1.6.2. The Blue Book does not mention chassis probably because it is written with reference to modern cars!!

  7. Thanks Kev for your response. The 2017 Regs have a different specification for weight, which is now the weight of the car ready for competition less the driver,(slightly less the Kerb Weight!).

Yellowperil, If you e-mail me at rcmcewen@btinternet.com I will add your address to my database so that you will receive the 2017 data as soon as it is published.

At the present time the MSA have not approved our 2017 Championship and we are therefore not able to publish anything until they do.

  8. I have received correspondence from John Willcocks of Project 8 Racing Club regarding the Victor Meldrew Challenge at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on 30th October for £160, or the 8 Clubs Challenge for £250.

The e-mail says that the VM is best suited to "older drivers" whereas the 8 Clubs is run as a Formula Libre races.

I will forward the e-mail I received to anybody interested in these events, it has details of the Regulations and Entry System.

  9. Hi Hamish

I assume that you have read the "Getting Started" document on our website and that you have the latest Blue Book as a reference.

Remember that your car is Period Defined (Section B of the Blue Book) and Roadgoing

To answer your question re headrests, and in deference to previous answers, I would guess that 99% of cars competing in Sprints and Hillclimbs have their headrests bolted to the ROPS. In addition the ROPS can also have a bar that a four point harness can be attached to, either with purpose mountings or by wrapping. It is OK to use a lap and diagonal seat belt but I wouldn't recommend it. Some cars have both types fitted, use one for the road and the other for competition.

In terms of what ROPS to buy I would suggest that it would be worth talking to the suppliers to see what their ROPS comply with. I am not aware of a ROPS for a roadgoing TR that complies fully with the blue book and still allows the hood to be fitted and removed. Width and height are the issue.

Please e-mail me with any specific questions re our Championship, e-mail address is rcmcewen@btinternet.com

Why not visit a Hillclimb and talk to the competitors and scrutineers, everyone is very helpful. Shelsley Walsh is a Championship round on the 17th September.

  10. There are a couple of points that need to be understood. Some old cars including race cars do not have seat belts or ROPS. ROPS are only recommended for road going hillclimb cars. Many hillclimb cars are standard road going cars that only have lap and diagonal seat belts and these cannot accommodate HANS devices.

I am hoping that the MSA do not introduce more stringent regulations that exclude the "do it for fun" competitors.

However if you have got it make sure it is fitted properly and used.

  11. There are 16 Triumph entries for this event, which as far as I am able to determine is a world record the number of Triumphs competing at an official motorsport event.

    There are TR2, TR4, TR6, TR7, TR7 V8, Vitesse convertible, GT6, Dolly Sprint, and a Beta.

So get to Shelsley Walsh on the 4th July, practice from 9am and competition runs from approximately 2pm, and support the competitive members of the Register. There is sure to be some enthusiastic driving as everyone strives to get the magic 10 Championship points for the best time compared to the class bogey.

Don't forget that Saturday 18th July is Triumph Day at Shelsley Walsh, with the chance to drive the hill during the lunch break.

SatNav for Shelsley Walsh is WR6 6RP and watch for the speed cameras along the A44 if that's the way you go.

  12. The TR Register has been invited to participate in the Shelsley Walsh Classic Nostalgia weekend of the 18th and 19th July. The event is open to all Classic, Historic and vintage cars built before 1980. Classes are based on build date.

The weekend consists of two completely separate events of National B Status. It would be really good to see a turnout of all TR Register members holding a suitable competition licence, including those with race and rally cars.

For spectators, on the Sunday the first 100 cars through the gate will be entered into a 'street concours' sponsored by Classic and Sportswear magazine.

Shelsley Walsh is in the beautiful Worcestershire countryside, and features many restored buildings around a Courtyard including the Stratstone Restaurant (suitable for weddings) and a fully operational Watermill.

Entries and tickets can be bought on-line at www.shelley-walsh.co.uk

  13. Hi Kev,

Just got confirmation that my entry has been accepted for the Sunday, so watching Classic Cars gave me some idea what the circuit is like.

Hoping to pick up on some YouTube videos of the event last year.

Interesting that Quentin Wilson has sold his E Type that the JDC went on so much about!!

See you on the circuits and at Blyton.

    Roger
