The Manx Classic was back this year and eight TR Register members made the journey to the Isle of Man for the event.
The Competition is three hillclimbs on consecutive days on closed roads, two of which are on the TT course. The Hills are The Sloc, Creg Willey's and Lhergy Frissell. The awards are presented on the basis of adding the three event best times together, or 300 for a failure. Sam Browne won the Ladies Award, a fine achievement. Nick Smith won First in Class.
The results were Jim Giddings TR7 V8 21st overall, Nick Smith TR6 22nd, Tom Purves Morgan 28th, Roger McEwen TR6 43rd, Sam Browne TR4 44th, Tony Browne Dolomite Sprint 65th and Bob Barnard TR4 68th.
A fantastic event thanks to Manx Motor Racing Club, whose website and Facebook page has loads of photographs (including those posted here), details and full results, and the marshalls and residents of the IOM.

To be able to host a round of our Championship the track licence must allow slick tyres.
Many of us compete in the Manx Classic but slicks are not allowed, so no Championship.

It is quite amazing to me that there was only one car entered in Class 1. This class is for “standard” road going Triumphs and would suit any day to day TR. Having no history it is likely that the bogey times are easy to achieve?
Perhaps next year we will see some ladies (females) and youngsters (under 30) entering.

The Regulations and entry form for next years Manx Classic are now available at www.Manxmotorracing.com
Three Hillclimb in three days on closed roads, two on the TT course. 28 - 30 April
Regular TR entrants stay at the Casino in Douglas as they have a very large car park suitable for trailers.
it will fill very quickly so enter now.

I am also competing that weekend. Organised when the International was planned for July.

Watched the streaming on the internet, nearly as good as being there! It must have been very close racing for the TRs
Richard Durrant TR4 41.06
Tom Purves TR3A 41.17
Hamish Roscoe TR3A 41.20
Phil Brown TR2 45.02

Yes it is good to see that the TRs are getting out and about again at the Sprints and Hillclimbs.
There were 7 at our first meeting at Castle Combe, then 3 at Shelsley Walsh followed by a magnificent 10 at Goodwood. Hopefully the numbers will increase as the year progresses and the restrictions are lifted further. It is such a shame that spectators are not allowed at the moment, and some organisers such as Loton Park and Prescott have not thrown their doors open to all competitors, just their club members.
There is a fair amount of detail and chat on our Facebook page TR Register Sprint and Hillclimb Championship

A fantastic turnout of ten TRiumphs for the Brighton and Hove MC Sprint at Goodwood.
Unfortunately Spectators are not allowed. -
The Bugatti Owners Club has issued a statement saying that the current MUK COVID restrictions mean that the future hillclimbs at Prescott this year will be for members of the BOC only.
All entries to date have been cancelled and BOC members will have to reapply for the new events. The maximum number of competitors for this year has been set at 50, with no spectators.

Hamish, do you have en entry list, would be interested to see it.
Thanks

I tried to buy an Acclaim last year (or was it earlier this?) at an Auction in Poole specifically for the Championship.
The money I was willing to spend was surpassed by a huge amount for an immaculate low mileage car. Oh well!

Many thanks Hamish.

The Revington TR / TR Register Sprint & Hillclimb Championship comes to its climax at the Pegasus Sprint at Castle Combe on the 19th October.
Such is the competition for the awards for the Championship that we have 16 Triumph cars entered.
Admission to the event is free and the catering facilities will be open all day. Practice starts at 09.00 with timed runs starting as soon as practice is completed.
This year the Championship Classes will be running first so should be over before headlights are needed!

Very nice video Hamish, engine sounds very sweet and the overdrive operation perfect.
Hope that this type of publicity gets more Triumph drivers active in Sprints & Hillclimbs.

10 events completed and TR7V8s head the Championship. This will almost certainly change over the next couple of months; but how?
This Saturday sees a small turnout at Aintree for the Liverpool MC Sprint and the following Saturday (6th July) sees ten Championship entries for the Reg Phillips Hillclimb meeting at Shelsley Walsh. A great club event including motorcycles organised by the Midland Automobile Club, with great spectator facilities. See you there.

I have been asked to publish the results of the Championship so here they are, up to the end of April, including the results for Curborough, Goodwood and Gurston Down.
The sprint at Croft was cancelled due to lack of entries.

Any chance of somebody sending me the results?

Hi All
The fact is that if you are competing in a road legal car any road legal tyre (marked with a E) is acceptable, although if the car is Class 1 then you cannot use tyres in List 1B of any year.
I have Blue Books going back 10 years, surely no one uses tyres older than that?, so if you want a check just send me an e-mail.
As a matter of interest I am using Vreds Sprint Classic that were in List 1B in 2015.
I have never seen a Scrutineer check the tyres so in the end it rests with the Championship competitors.

Hi Chris
The attached files show 2018 results. This year so far we have 6 non TRs, 3 sidescreen TRs, 7 TR4s, 5 TR6s, 3 TR7s and 5 TR7 V8s.
Enter the Championship and get back into motorsport - it's what the car was built for.

We have a licence from Motorsport UK for the 2019 Revington TR / TR Register Sprint & Hillclimb Championship.
I have distributed documentation for registration etc via e-mail. If you would like to receive the documentation please e-mail me at rcmcewen@btinternet.com.
The documents should be appearing on the TR Register website in the Motorsport Downloads section in the near future.

Hamish,
This was the draft post on the subject and was modified a few seconds later!! The picture is not even correct, so you had better look at Facebook for the updated data.

Unfortunately there were 5 no shows from the TR entry; but there was a new entry after an absence of 20 years: Matt Waltham driving a race prepared TR5. His previous Championship car was a very well sorted green roadgoing TR4; I wonder what happened to it.
And then there was a nasty Mazda MX5 that did some serious damage to an Armco barrier to such an extent that the meeting had to be abandoned at the end of the first runs. The marshals tried their best to repair the damage but after about an hour it was decided to abandon on safety grounds.
