  1. GROVE COMPONENTS UPDATE

    Hi All

    Long time – no post!

This is not designed to be a plug from grove - just merely an update to note.

A tad belated this one, but by now, followers of this post will have noted a new presence within 'Grove Components', namely my good friend, good neighbour and now my new business partner Andy Tabor.

Andy T, [as he shall be known for clarification purposes] brings with him the knowledge of the fastener industry and in particular their technical properties and uses thereof - already proven - this will benefit us all. Andy was also very instrumental both technically and 'hands on' with the recent restoration of the TR5.

Dave R has now decided to concentrate and pursue his 'transportation' business and can be contacted on his usual numbers or through me, we wish him all the best for the future, as a friend I will still be seeing him on a regularly basis.

Please do visit our 'new' website www.groveco.co.uk or give us a call on 0151 353 0008, stocks have grown considerably, prices are now online and new products are being added regularly.

    Thanks

Andy C [as I shall be known for clarification purposes!]

    :D

  2. Problem solved !

The spax were too long for the lowered springs, today I fitted a standard pair of shocks and the travel before bottoming out is now some 2 inches, the '5' handles alot better and the ride is totally different.

    Many thanks for everyone's input.

    Andy

  3. Hi all  :D

Before anyone suggests it, yes I have searched previous posts [ I think! ]  :P

Anyhow here goes - first and foremost mine is a '5' and I hope that it is not against etiquete [ spell check required ] to post my question here.

Having recently restored my car - my suspension feels/is wrong, ride stiffness aside which is down to personal preference, the damper seems to be bottoming out after only 1/4" of compression.

The setup is as follows TRGB uprated and lowered springs [F39] and spax dampers [G479], has anyone else had 'travel' problems with this set up, should I be using standard height springs with the spax, please help !

    Cheers Andy

  4. Hi Kris,

Mine is amsdairy, obvious but boring !  :P

    Andy C.

P.S. If a concours TR turns up on eBay for £20, please understand that I have a short term memory for name's !

    A??? [ermm - now what's my name]

  5. This was the one that started me on the road to financial ruin :D

I have kept an eye out for it over the last few years at the international, but to no avail :(

I sold it around the mid 90's to a Mark Windsor who then moved down South, does anyone know of it's whereabouts.

  6. Thanks John and Nick - Problem now solved.

It was my error, the trunnion would normally be changed with the brake caliper mounting bracket attached to the vertical link, thus creating a predetermined stop. If the trunnion was fitted as mine was, with the caliper mounting bracket off, it became possible to wind the trunnion on too far, thus destroying the rubber. 11 years, 3 restorations on - the process of learning never stops!

    Once again, Thanks.

    :^

  7. Noel,

I have a ' 5 ' also and last year hit the same problem as yourself, alas I spent a whole day trying to fit the belts into the exisiting mountings - only to realise that a hole had to be drilled on aforementioned wheel arch.

If my memory serves me right I took my positioning for the ' reel ' from later pics of a ' 6 ', the reel sits just above the carpet on the flatish section of the wheelarch.

I then purchased from Moss or Rimmers, 2 seat belt anchor's [ captive nut welded onto 2 inch square plate ], this then sits behind the road wheel.

Now that my '5' is being restored I will take the oppourtunity to weld the anchor nut/plates into position.

    Hope this helps.

    Andy C :)

  8. I know this query could apply to other TR's as well, and I know the TR5 Forum is like a ghost town, but as I have a '5' this is where my post belongs !

    Question ?

Between the Trunnion and the vertical link sits a rubber dust shield / collar / grease retainer. After one week both of mine have split in numerous places - did I do something wrong? Is this a potential mot failure point?

Previous posts on parts have referred to inferior rubber components, am I witnessing one ?

If I have to replace them,  won't the same thing just happen again or is there a source of rubber dust collars out there in TR land that I have not heard about ?

    Many Thanks

    Andy C

  9. Harry,

I would be more than happy to go side by side with a '250' at the forthcoming international subject to how long the car was required [ Don't want to miss out on too much fun ! ].

However a.n. other '5' might be more suited, mine has wrong grill, so so paintwork and the panel gaps are testimont to the fit of heritage replacement rear wings [& bubble rust by b posts]

Let me know what you're thinking - will email pic

    Cheers Andy

P.S. Have started new thread cause '5' forum looks sad.

  10. I Know the Heritage rear outer wings leave alot to be desired, how about the inner rears, are they available and how do they fit ?

    Cheers Andy.

P.S. Harry could you email me that list you mentioned and price on Boot Lid

  11. Harry,

Many thanks for your prompt reply, we have pretty elusive or should that be exclusive cars then !

Did you purchase any heritage panels for your restoration, if so which ones and how were they ? [fit etc]

How diffucult was it / is it to find new or s/h originals and how much would one except to pay. Although I have no intention of restoring my '5' for the next few years [ bodywise] should I start sourcing panels now ? Which panels are not available from heritage and likewise are hard to source s/h.

Sorry for all the questions Harry,

    Many Thanks

    Andy C

  12. Just wondered, I can consult books to find out how many were produced but does anyone know how many Tr 5's are still in existence and on the road ? Also are Heritage certificates available for 5's. Any good links to TR5 websites.

    Andy C

P.S. reminder to myself "must not pull this one apart !"

  13. Thanks Graeme,

Mine however is chromed metal and is contoured to fit the 4/4a & 5 boot, it is approx 1 inch deep at the top and 1/2 inch deep at the bottom. The number plate is then attached on top. This item appears [through the state of the chrome] to be quite a number of years old. Any idea if Triumph offered it as an accessory?

    Andy C

  14. I have just become the proud owner of a TR5 reg no UUW 102F.

    QUESTION

On my car there is a chrome surround for the rear number plate. However, I can't seem to find any pictures of one in any of the TR Books, has anyone else got one and if not any idea where mine came from ?
