  1. And when I came to install my identical Judson on my TR2 I could not bring myself, if I recall correctly, to saw off the RHS radiator stay, remove the horn and I think it also needs a ding in the inner guard, seemed a crime after all the work restoring. So read the fitting instructions first, unlike me...

I sold it off with everything you see AND the original boost gauge, which alone was worth about US$750 for around $2,000. I have a feeling it might also be for sale again (in Australia)

    Cheers

  2. G'day from Tasmania

I'll swear that I used to have lit-the-dot pegs on either side of my hood frame, near the tops of the bows. I thought they were used to hold down the hood stick cover. I have had my frame powder coated and no amount of probing and a bit of sanding will reveal where they once were.

Am I imagining them? But there are two 'inside -out' clips for them on an old hood-stick cover I have. I imagine they had to be clipped on first before the cover went over the hood bows? If the pegs for these were not on the bows, where were they?

The cover really flaps around, was there any other way of securing it?

    Any help appreciated.

    Cheers

  3. G'day. We solved the problem here, (given that the wheel bearing 'bit' is OK and the splines are the problem) by simply hacksawing off the splined bit, replacing the wheel studs with longer ones and bolting on some new hub extensions. A fellow here in Oz has had some beautifully crafted new ones turned up, so far it works well. I have a photo somewhere....

  4. Here's a tough one, TR2 TS7978 is nearly finished, A very late 2 that could have had the hockey sticks/horse-shoe chrome trim around the mouth. I know my front apron was replaced long ago with one from a 3. I managed to get hold of one those reasonably rare trim pieces and am now trying to fit using the holes that are in the panel to take the 3 'full surround' trim... and it is getting distressing. I thought that this was a fair assumption, but would there be anyone who knows if the early chrome trim holes are different to the later?

And another thing... if I ordered my pearl white 2 with wire wheels in'55, what colour would those wheels have been? white or silver?

    Cheers, Chris

  5. This must have been asked before... I have an assembled w/screen but two of the small tenax pegs have stripped threads. The holes are clear of the glass, so it would be possible to re-tap if an o.s. peg existed, does it? or is there a glue that is strong enough to hold even when the soft top is attached? Any good ideas?

    Cheers

  6. The parts book shows no rubber gasket between the metal base of the early central brake light and the rear apron,ie metal to paint. Apparently the Lucas book also shows no gasket. So is that how it is? Just bolt it up? Also, just a detail, as the perimeter of the metal base can therefore be seen, is it painted? and what colour?

    Thanks in advance!

Chris, and TS 7978 is looking good to be back on the road in early '11, after 33 years off....

  7. Getting near the end of the resto of TR2 TS7978 and was fortunate recently to get hold of the chrome trim that I think was unique to the late TR2's, the 'hockey sticks' mouth trim, though it's never as simple as just bolting it on..(and it is in two pieces...)

It's a long shot, but does anyone know if this trim used the same holes as the later TR3 trim that went all the way around? It would seem to want to (with persuasion), but photos of the time seem to show it 'prouder' than the later trim?

Also this is secured by two small screws at the top, either side, onto the 'roof of the mouth'. I've run out of sheet metal here and I have long suspected that my 2 apron was long ago replaced with a 3. So the question is; does the TR2 apron have more (deeper) sheet metal at the top than later ones, especially TR3's?

And thanks to everyone, especially Willy, who helped recently with the paint code for Apple Green in a language that Australian paint suppliers speak.

    cheers

  8. Thanks for the help on 'apple green'. Another thing.. Does the steel hardtop have your usual headlining bows? or does the lining glue directly to it?, and just out of curiosity, what on earth are the two vertical bracket things, about three inches long, just below the battery box, where the gearbox goes through the firewall for!? (I will learn how to add a photo...)
