I found that a standard non return valve as bought in Halfords for Instance, has a spring inside holding it closed that the manual pump couldn't overcome, I popped it apart and removed the spring and it's fine now.

To remove the wires how about putting some oil down it, followed by a bit of wadding then blast it out with an air line, never tried it myself but it might work.

Yes that's about it, you also have to undo the nut and remove the olive at the end of the shaft, before taking it out tie a draw wire to the one of the wires, so you can pull the wire back when you refit it.

I've got the round ones, and I can't see the nearside one , it's obscured by the bonnet, if i were to do it again I would just have one on the drivers side windscreen frame.

I'm in Madras at this very moment, there's a chap outside cutting up 8x4ft sheets of inch thick steel, he's not wearing goggles and he has the very latest in safety flip flops, I know we complain about health and safety gone mad, here it's gone missing. I wonder if he's building a rocket for their space program?

If you have a jump lead connect one end to the earth side of the battery, the other to the engine, then give it a whirl, that will rule out an earth problem,if it still no go then it's either the solenoid or starter motor.

I think he must have fitted mine.
The punch didn't work because he was banging away on a shag pile carpet!............. and you know what that's like.

Steve - Apparently the whole engine is out of a 4 (thats why I want a 3 to go round it) and my carbs are bigger that yours - naaaa na na naaa na
Then there's really no excuse to dawdle along at the back when we're out on a run
-
That's it, same as the one that's missing from mine. You know of course that now you've got it out on the forum people will tell you what's wrong with it!! ( the engine bay that is)
So, why is your rocker cover on the wrong way round??

Where does all the excess water go during this foul process ?
Heater valve ? (something else to look up ... huff)
Bob, you missed the stage that says - take it to the man at the garage round the corner and let him make a mess of his floor !
Heater valve is on the top of the block and looks as though it's escaped from your airing cupboard.

I'm more interested in what you have to do to get the head up to stage Eleven !
Mick Richards
That'll be Nigel Tufnels car then.

Hi Roy
That happened to mine when i first got it, someone had fitted all the shoes the same way up, not leading/trailing, there must be a diagram somewhere of the correct orientation you could refer to.

You could always get your own back.................
http://youtu.be/YgN9KpbyICoI can't seem to post the link that shows the picture of what it's pointing to

You could take the bits to a local branch of Pirtek http://www.pirtek.co.uk/ and see if they can make something up.

Hopefully she will find the set of AF spanners that I have got her this year to be far more useful (they are King Dick after all)
Better get her a grease gun too Austin, It'll come in handy when she tells you where to put them!

Yes, as the water is cooled to below the opening temp of the thermostat, it closes, and so the cycle continues, thereby regulating the water temperature.

Remove the brake lamp from one side, then see if it still happens, if yes, put it back and try the other side, this should help narrow it down to a particular side, there may be a short within the lamp cluster.

The wife thought my new larger gear knob looked quite nice - its made of 'wood' you know. I'm sure I still had the same problem with the previous one too. I can always screw it back on and see.
Well you can't blame a woman for wanting wood......perhaps it's your hand that is too big?
-
Is it possible to fabricate an s-shaped lever, i.e., bring the knob backwards away from the dash - which i hit all of the time with my ham fists
That's because your knob is too big! this is not an unsolicited endorsement, just an observation that you have an after-market knob......rather than the small but perfectly formed original.

You could put one of these on the drivers seat.
