  1. Just prepping the car before taking it for latest MoT and noticed that near side headlamp was not working. Changed the bulb but this is obviously not the problem. Any ideas on sourcing /fixing the issue? All new wiring loom and light switch were fitted on rebuild.

    Any help gratefully received.

  2. Unless the situation has changed in the last few years, I also believed they were still available! I’m still running on my original B post plates & catches though which I striped, overhauled & had re-plated to go back onto the restored car. They work perfectly, are you sure it’s not a question of adjustment or some other problem? If worse comes to worse, there should be plenty of second hand catches & B post plates around you could use as a basis for refurbishment; I think they were also common (with maybe slight variations on the actuating plate) accross a number of the other Triumph models.

Thanks for comments, it is the door catches as opposed to the striker plates on the B posts.

  3. I found that the door catches I have fitted are worn slightly and as such are affecting tight door closure. As NOS replacements are no longer available has anyone used alternative new versions from other Triumph / BL models ?

  4.

Having recently refitted my rebuilt gearbox after a layshaft disintegration the clutch pedal tends to be rather sticky after warm up.

I understand the problem to emanate from a lack of grease on the clutch release bearing sleeve (possibly a high spot).

Rather than haul the gearbox out yet again ( although by now it should be on zippers) I was considering drilling a half inch hole through the underside of the bell housing forward of the clutch fork cross shaft to allow access to lubricate the offending sleeve.

Appreciate that this might not find favour amongst the purists of you out there but wonder if any of you have considered or effected such a creative (some may say lazy) approach. The gearbox has been rebulit using a bellhousing from a saloon car.

    Any views would be welcome.

    Regards Mike

  5. Thanks for both responses.

Have now managed to investigate the problem further and it seems the layshaft has collapsed or sheared.

My friend and I have tonight just removed gearbox from inside car in less than an hour - zippers are working a treat on the gearbox tunnel etc!!!.

In the absence of appropriate tools and limited garage space hoping that my chums at Racetorations can re-build gearbox by weekend.

  6. :(

Having enjoyed some fantastic drives in my recently commissioned six and making the best of the fine Scottish summer I encountered a mishap not far from home today. I lost the ability to engage 1st, 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. I did thankfully manage to coax the car home in top gear.

I have had no prior warning of any gearbox problems with all gears previously engaging sweetly along with o/drive in all but first gear.

Gears sound as if there wish to engage but do not quite do so.

Any ideas on the likely source of problem before pulling out the gearbox?

I was due to have the car trimmed tomorrow so I guess the up side of this dissappointing turn of events is that it happened beforehand.

Any thoughts , advice very welcome.

    Thanks Mike

  7. :) I'm in the process of putting the boot parts back together on my resto project. I presume the boot lock plunger should have some kind of grommet between it and the body. I can't seem to find any pointers in ref., books etc., so far.

Can anyone offer any advice please.

    Thanks Mike

Getting there slowly but surely, although the old school motto of perseverence has been called on many times!

  8. Can anyone provide information on correcting negative camber on rear wheels ?

Presently the offside wheel is sitting perpendiclar with the floor but the offside is leaning inwards at the top about 25mm.

Appreciate adjustment can be made through trailing arms but unsure of method.

    Thanks
