  1. I saw J@L during my google search however some reports advised that the finish was not so hot in some instances.

    Reasonably priced came through though.

I'm quality over quantity every time.

    Regards

  2. thanks Tim.

As I say, Been a while but will be worth it when it's done.

Congrats on the chassis from Colin, can't go wrong with a CTM chassis. I reckon it saved my life anyway.

I originally painted the new chassis with Jotamastic 87 but given that it only lasted 3 years I'm powder coating this one. Whats best - who knows?!?!

    Regards

  3. I too purchased a set of gauges and found the response slow - unbelievably slow! I was concerned I wasn't going to get them as we'll but we got there eventually after several false promises?

I think I've still got his mobile number somewhere in my eBay messages?!?!

    Regards

  4. To add my bit; I had a new chassis from CTM 4 years ago.

Last year I was involved in a nasty accident on the way to the International.

    I'm bl**dy glad I had a new chassis a few years earlier!!!

I very much doubt I'd be here otherwise. No brainer!

If you go to visit CTM, ask Colin to show you my car ;-)

Spring 2015 is my date to be back on the road and I can't wait!!!

    Regards

  5. Had a chance to play in the garage this morning and it's now fixed.

Sadly it was the usual problem of sh!t replacement parts that aren't up to the job.

I replaced the gear wheel in the motor a month ago. Worked ok at the time but then things changed.

It would park using my finger on the switch but not with the gear wheel installed. I eventually figured out that the parking ramp is too shallow so i inserted a thin strip of gasket under the parking ramp to give it just a little more contact and guess what, we have contact and wipers park.

Several hours mucking about and it's the usual story.

Thanks for all the suggestions though.

  6. Hi All

At Laon a couple of weeks ago a problem developed. It wasn't so much of an issue at the time as it rained continuously thereafter.

    Wipers will not park.

The wiper motor is 6 months old and worked ok up until this fault occurred.

I have a permanent live to terminal 5 so that's not an issue.

I have 2 speeds and I checked the voltage here too, that's ok.

Can something in the switch be causing this and how do I check?

Do I just order a new switch?

    Comments please.

    Many thanks

  7. Unfortunately it doesnt seem to be on the DVLA so either long gone or still hiding in someones shed.

    Stuart.

It's been doing 3k miles per year for the last several years and definitely not hiding in a shed :D

The picture above was taken in Cornwall last year by Julian Stephens who works at Heligan. I wanted to take the car for a trip "back home" so spoke to the Cornwall group in advance.

We were supposed to meet up for a run but the rain was awful all week, we didn't take the roof down once.

Steve, you will have a PM shortly...

  8. Hi All

My wiper motor has never parked since I bought the car so it's always been a case of getting the timing right on the switch, or having another go if I missed. This year I decided to do the simple thing and fix it. Why does a 5 minute job always turn into 5 days, weeks, months, etc.

So, removing the Wiper motor I find I have a 75738J fitted with a 110 degree gear and not the 75655 with 115 degrees I believe I am supposed to have.

Can anyone tell me what I have and is it correct for the car. It's a '72 CP.

    And it still doesn't park.

    Many thanks

  9. I think you may be looking for a problem which doesn't exist.

Mine runs at mid point on the gauge at normal road speeds but in town and slow traffic the temperature rises and the fan kicks in bringing it back down.

I have a low temperature stat so it opens earlier.

I don't have the original fan fitted, I just rely on the electric (Pacet - very good) fan.

The radiator was replaced last winter.

The engine was completely rebuilt 2 winters ago by someone very experienced.

The water pump was replaced with a new unit.

Yours seems to run the same as mine and I don't have any issues. Stop looking for a problem and just drive it. ;-)

    Regards

  10. I'm currently replacing the n/s floor with inner and outer sills. I did most of the work on chassis but had to lift to spot weld the rear lip, all other welding completed at this point!

So, interior out; seats, carpets, all interior trim, gearbox tunnel, etc.

Disconnect brake pipes, unattach clutch slave cylinder, fuel pipes at rear near diff bridge.

Drain water, disconnect heater pipes through bulkhead, don't forget mounting bolt into bell housing for water pipe support at rear of engine, disconnect starter motor, gearbox speedo thing,

Disconnect alternator, coil, and anything else linking the body to engine, oil thing below dizzy, look carefully for anything you missed! And then look again!

Remove air intake plenum, battery earth strap is also attached to bell housing,

Bumpers and irons remove, bonnet and boot lid cos they are heavy! Leave doors in place as the locks will hold the tub together. Or they do in my car anyway. I left the wings on but I guess it depends on what you're doing with these later.

I then used 2x 3"x2" planks under the entire sill with cut outs to clear the chassis mounts. Below the planks is a hydraulic motorcycle scissor lift on each side. Slow jack each side to reach the desired height for working.

I cannot remember everything at this point but you get the idea.

I guess it depends on how good the tub is structurally but usual disclaimer that this is my experience and try it at your own risk etc.

I just need to paint it now but hopefully I'll put photographic record here of my experience so it could be useful to others.

    have fun

    Regards

  11. Ok, so I knew a replacement floor would be required at some point in the near future however, I didn't realise the future had already arrived.

Having a gearbox rebuilt shortly so simple winter plan; remove gearbox. Why does a 2 hour job become 2 months or 2 years!

Had a new chassis last winter which let me know the floors were beyond best and my action plan should include this within 5 years. Now the interior is out again I found a hole at the front, holes at the back near the chassis mount and the bottom edge against the sill is also rotten in places. All in all, too much to patch. It's the n/s which has gone, the o/s looks ok. Sills look ok or certainly don't need replacing at the moment but should I include them anyway while I'm making a mess?

Does anyone have a step by step guide to replacing the floor with the body on?

I remember seeing a PDF a couple of years ago which someone had written but I can't find it again. Any ideas?

    Any experienced comments welcome.

    Many thanks

    Rob
