Thanks for your ideas. Seems likely. the gauge is a Snap On test gauge with a banjo fitting But I left the washers as before, so Hopefully.........

Sorry to see your opinion of BSA bikes. I love 'em. Down to my last two  350 Gold Star with 650 A10 engine and 1929 Sloper.

You were spot on, thanks. So obvious I feel a bit sheepish. A shame the manual is not clearer.

    Hi Geoff

the fact that it gets 70psi suggests that the machinery can hold the oil.

Could it be the gauge/pipe work.  Have you tried another gauge or attached to a different position?

Whilst it is slowly climbing are there any expensive noises !!

The oil pipe from the gallery to the gauge may not be full of oil  (which would give a rapid reaction.)

If it is full of air then that air needs to get compressed to make the gauge read. This is much slower than the oil which is effectively a solid.

Keep listening to what is going on in the engine.

Thanks for your thoughts. I changed to my Snap On test gauge but left the washers as I had them with the dash gauge. These are just 5/16"copper washers out of a selection box so could well be be the cause. I will report after the weekend.

Where the banjo for the oil pressure pipe fits on to the filter head there should be two different sizes copper washers, the one with the larger hole goes against the filter head so as not to obstruct the small passageway that allows the oil through to the gauge pipe. If two of the smaller hole washers have been used, or fibre washers, this would obstruct the flow of oil into the pipe and would cause your symptoms.

  5. The newly rebuilt engine of my  TR4 reaches 70psi at 2000rpm but is slow to rise. Is this a known issue and what is the cause It has not yet been run up to temperature so the results are

at cold start. I can see no obvious fault but I am sure all is not well. Any thoughts?

    Hi,

As per Stuart have just done mine and although time consuming fitted perfectly.

Fit rubber around glass and tape in place with masking tape to glass

Fit trim into groove and again tape in place - it will sit proud.

Put parachute cord into seal with a loop coiming out at each corner.

Lay screen onto fram and starting at one corner pull loop amd get rubber to fit over lip on frame- i also use a flat blade screwdriver but be carefull.

As the rubber goes into the frame  the gap holding the trim closes up and grips the tongue of the trim.

The trim is then held and the sits flush or very slightly proud of the rubber. You are not tyring to get it recessed into the rubber.

All in all took approx 45 mins.

My rubber and trim were from Rimmers and fitted perfectly.

Thanks, I will try that. My problem was that when the car arrived the screen was loose and no sign of rubber or trim.

Do not fit the trim and leave for 24 hours before cutting the the joint for the cover

Unfortunately. the root of the issue is that the trim does not fit the rubber seal. I do not know which part ,or both,  are wrong. The screen is in the seal in the aperture and I do not intend to remove it until a solution is found.

  8. i am having a problem with finding a seal and a compatible trim/filler. Does anyone have samples of the original parts? I have bought (and returned) several of these

from different suppliers. All are the same and the groove in the rubber is different in section from the plastic trim. The plastic is taller than the depth of the groove.

All the suppliers insist they are as original and there have been no other complaints. In the past I have fitted many windscreens and most Brit cars use a similar type of seal

so I am unable to understand why this is happening.
