  1. Hi All,

    After refurbishment of my carburettas HS6 on my TR4A I'm getting a small backfire/pop, I've been told it's unspent fuel?, can anyone tell me what this is and away forward, is this a float problem? or a plug problem.

    I've found leaving the foam intact as far as possible is easiest. I cut and open out any split plastic coverings with a sharp stanley knife until there is no raised area left, and then remove any crumbing foam underneath. Then I use a wood rot hardener ( From Toolstation/Screwfix) to soak into the surrounding foam  to make it harder - you need to allow this to dry but don't oversoak it too much as it reacts a little with the foam and causes it to swell - once cured, I trim the area back to level.

    Then I fill the damaged areas with a flexible rubber type filler which is available from body shops ( used for repairing non metal bumpers) and sand tom a smooth finish matching all the relevant contours. You now have a solid and even base to cover. I use a local trimmer who has developed his own templates, and he uses a stitched seam along edges and contour changes to cover the items. Personally I like the stitched edges as I think it gives a more quality look and feel to the end result but I accept some people don't - I know this thread is about H frames but I successfully use this method on all the other bits as well. I've had some teething problems in finding the right glues but I think this is now cracked.

  3. Hi,

    I purchased this Triumph TR4A IRS in March 2015, its still in good condition I have replaced all the interior, plus put chrome wires with 20 mm white wall tyres, painted the bonnet plus boot lid and deck, if you have any information on the refurbishment or photos you could forward on to me for my files it would be appreciated.

  4. Hi Mick,

     

    Re the wheel to wheel arch space/camber, as this is my first TR4 I'm not to sure if it should look this way, i have seen many TR4A IRS's looking this way and it certainly drives well , I hope to attend the next Essex TR Register meeting and get some expert advice on the car, on the good side i have now purchased 2 very nice front TR4A seats from a very nice chap (Paul) which will be fitted once i have the new runners delivered.

Hi All, I was lucky enough to purchase this TR4, the seats are US TR6 high backs' but I'm looking for a pair of original seats, I drove it home after buying it a total of 145 miles and it drove fine, there's a couple of things that requires attention, but I have just had it tuned and it now idles as it should, all in all I have not stopped smiling,
