  2. Hi Roger

Trimmers are few and far between in Norfolk, ones that are here are massively expensive!!

Moss stuff is ok but I personally wouldnt pay that much for mass produced average quality bog standard design.

Have been thinking for a while about setting up some sort of bespoke service not just for trim but a fair few other restoration bits and bobs that I have done myself already.

Trim wise, I would be able offer different options ( not for the purist)... French stitching, Bentley stich...tuck and roll panels amongst a few ideas..

Just testing the water on what people want and how deep the pockets are...????????

  3. A question please...

What would optinion be regarding what someone would be happy to pay for a good quality retrimmed interior parts done in either top quality marine grade vinyl or leather for the following ??

    Seats (pair)

    Door cards

Rear wheel tub and side trim

    Back panel

    Lower crash pads

    Dash top

    H frame

    Kidney panels.

The reason Im asking is that Im about to undertake the restoration of the whole interior of my 6 and wondered if there was a market for a bespoke re-trimming service.??

    All the best

    Nick

  4. Sorry.. i know there is plenty of info on the forum about this but reading so much... maybe too much...but nothing really recent... so thing may of changed.

now in the position in the restoration to buy stuff...!

Bushes: Polybush, Superflex or Superpro.? Polyubush seem to be the cheapest but maybe thats for a reason... Superflex & Superpro... are they the same?

Shocks: Gaz, KYB, Koni or Spax...? anything wrong with the Gaz..? again cheap in comparison. know nothing about KYB?

Uprating fromt anit roll bar.... worth it....? rear anit roll bar... should i bother..?

or course cost is a factor to some extent, hunting around for the best deals, rimmers are having a 15% off

Use will be a bit of fast road, but mainly crusiing the country lanes, doubt i will get on a track so not worth the setting up for this.

    opinions welcome please...

    thanks

  5. Hi, in the process of preping panels and tub and looking around for something to protect the under side and inside panels that I can overpaint with body colour. I would like to have a smooth as possible finish that gives stone scratch resistance. Ive already etched primed the bear metal.

Layers I think I need are:

    Etch

    Brush on Seam sealer

    Stone guard or something

    Prime 2 coats

    Body clout 2 coats

    Options and advise warmly welcome

  6. No bothered really, eBay users rarely look at they stuff... and very much doubt the scammrr will bother doing anything... bidded on loads of the scamming stuff of late only to see it taken off and not winning ????????

Unlikely to be banned for bidding on an item gets removed ????

  7. What happens is.... they will sell you the car for stood low money, you pay them either by bank transfer to an Irish bank or a dogey PayPal account that they say is guaranteed on the promise of if you dont like the car they come and collect it and you can have your money back... when you try things like, can I come to see it they will come up with some old bollocks about... it for a very ill friend and it locked away somewhere but everything is legit and please pay the money and the car is yours...we live in Spain so cant be there to deliver personals but have a trusted transportation implant that will do the deal.... blah blah blah...

The moral is... if its to good to true.... run away... ????

  8. sorry for the late reply... real life sometimes takes over...!

thanks very much for your input, the chap that is going to be blasting is going to etch the tub so it maybe that i etch the rest. luckily i have a heated garage so i'm not overly concerned about flash rusting,

I've now paint stripped almost all the flat areas of the panels in preparation for blasting the rest at the end of Feb, now just need to find a good quality etch.

i think i'm going to go down the road of 2k solid top coat, but I've also read that some lacquer / clear coat over this to get a really deep shine...? the only issue i can see with this chips are harder the fix...might just be i put lots of paint on and flat and polish it to death...!

    cheers

  9. Currently in the middle of my nut and bolt restoration and shortly having everything media blasted and in preparation i'm painting stripping all the flat areas of the panels as i'm fully aware of the issue of warping when blasting these areas...

i want to prime all the bits i do but am confused on what to use?

    etch primer

    wash primer

    epoxy primer

i have read that its not a good idea putting filler on top of etch primer....? there will be minimum filler, just for imperfections.

Also should i use a high build primer over whatever i use to seal the panels from corrosion...?

25 plus years ago i worked in a bodyshop so panel beating and spraying is not an issue but things have changed massively since cellulose...! i have used 2k but its just the priming is an issue.

    all comments welcome :)
