OK - I'll give it another shot at the weekend.
Thanks for your help an wish I was closer to Cornwall!

Thanks again Stuart. Does it also go over the anti squeal shim or not?
Nigel.
-
Thanks Stuart,
I'll do that - it could be acting like a none return valve if it has collapsed inside.
I still can't work out how the spring clips fit on. The previous ones just had the little R clip near the head and these new ones have the R clip closer to the free end and the spring clips too. I can't find any diagram or photo showing how they should go.
Again - any ideas?

Thanks Al,
I have yet to try again but will bear in mind your advice.

Hi John,
I haven't had the servo off but I did have the master cylinder off and put new seals in it at the same time as new pistons in the calipers.
I'll try opening the bleed screw on the caliper I am working on and see if that lets the pistons return to the full extent.
Thanks for the advice - I'll report back.

Hi John,
Yes, the disc is central to the caliper - my problem is getting both pistons retracted at the same time to get the new pads in.

Hi All,
I have been trawling the forum for ideas and advice on the subject of front pads and a problem that I have.
I few weeks ago I fitted stainless steel pistons to the callipers and the N/S one appeared tp have seized up.
All looked good and I built it back up again.
On a short trip out some time later the same caliber seized on again and I had to wait for it to cool before I drove home.
I got a set of standard pads and shims and pins and the clips which were not on the original set up.
I came to fit these yesterday and removed the old pads and pins and fitted one pad and shim and then tried to fit the second one on the same caliper and couldn't get the piston the go back into the caliber far enough to get the second pad in.
Both pistons are nice and free but can't seem to get them both to go back at the same time!
I am wondering if there is some sort of none return valve in the system which is preventing this and maybe that is also causing my problem of the caliber starting to lock up under use.
The brakes seem to work Ok but I just can't get the new pads in and if I can then I can't figure out how the spring clips go on.
Can anyone help or advise?
Thanks,
Nigel.

Thanks for this. Planning to do the same after refitting the steering rack after undoing it to replace the front engine oil seal. It will be interesting to see if there is a difference in HUJ.
Did you take it to a normal tyre depot?

Finishing off fitting a new timing cover oil seal and the an oil and filter change. Then fitting a new grille and then....,,

OK and thanks. It didn't look to have been off before.

The rope trick worked a treat so thanks for the advice; no problem at all and wasn't as tight as I thought it might be.
I can't find anywhere the torque setting for tightening it up again. Can anyone tell me what it should be?
Thanks,
Nigel.

I plan on trying the rope trick this evening; will keep my progress posted!

Hi Gary,
Yes it was but having seen Carl's which seemed better then I had second thoughts.
I drove it and also a TR4A that was in stock and then went home and drove my TR6 and decided to keep it!
Still not reply from Carl about his TR250 which is very disappointing as I asked to go and see that on Sunday but hey ho....
The red TR250 drove well and seems solid but there were a number of down bits which could be sorted etc.
Just a preference thing now and my TR6 isn't as bad as `I thought it was.
Now getting the timing cover oil seal sorted and a new PRV and injectors.
Then it's copper brake pipes and then poly bushes and then...........

I used to own the carmine red TR6 JNR 553 L and sold it in about 1985.
I saw it for sale on Ebay a couple of years ago and by the time I had decided to enquire, it had been sold.
Does anyone know of its whereabouts now?
Nigel.

Hi Tom and thanks for your reply.
This was really helpful - especially re the CP head and Webers!
I am not worried about LHD and love the Michelotti lines and the fact that essentially this is a TR4A with a 6 cylinder engine that can have its performance improved if desired.
I'll let you know how I went on after I have seen and driven the car.
Cheers and thanks again.

Hi All,
I'm planning to go to see a TR250 at the weekend.
It's LHD and ex Florida according to the vendor.
Photos look OK and doesn't look to have been messed with too much as far as I can tell.
Does anyone have and pros and cons re the TR250?
I have a TR6 at the moment and would love a TR5 but............
It's the red one on Ebay on the Wirral.
Any advice would be welcome.

Hi,
I have a similar issue with my 1975 TR6 speedo. The odometer seems to be working OK but the needle is a bit wild and the speedo reads low.
I plan on checking the angle drive and the cable itself.

I owned carmine red TR6 JNR 553 L in the early 1980's and missed that car being sold on Ebay about 3 years ago.
Would be good to catch up with her again.
