  1. sorry to hear of Dianes passing and send my condolences to tom , i first meet Diane when broken down in my newly acquired TR4 who advised me to join the registrar, and shortly after introduce me to alec,

both had a boundless knowledge and knew so many people i like most who knew them will miss their presence  at meets and car events ,

     john

  2. im about to rebuild the engine of my tr4 with a fast road camshaft that I brought some years ago, I never had an information sheet supplied with the camshaft , I brought it from either trgb or trshop,

I contacted both of them and as the purchase was some time ago do not have records of my purchase ,

I did have the engine running before setting it up as per the manual, having been of the road for some years and now in the process of getting it back on the road again,

ive stripped the engine as the gaskets had dried out and a build up of crud was removed , the sprockets on the timing were replaced with new when last rebuilt so no timing marks on them,

the bores were remarkable as they were not rusty or seized,

so do I just set up the camshaft as the manual ? all comments appreciated ,

  3. im planning to put a tr4   4 syncro box in my tr3a , and would appreciate any knowledge on the following ,

1.... I have been told I will need a tr4 gear stick due to location bolt being larger in the later box,

2 … if so do I need to have the gear stick straightened and shortened to miss the bash board?

    many thanks

  4. think we have all been caught on ebay , of all the hundreds of good purchases ive made I had 2 that I will tell you, both these were things I brought last year,

1...new water pump. tr2/4 .. left in box placed on shelf just took a glance at it. only when I got it out recently to check parts for head rebuild did I notice the vanes were ground down

due to the vanes not sitting close to the body .. result in the bin...

2 .. set of new old stock valve springs ... again placed on shelf only recently got them out , only to find the packaging had a slit near the card top emptied the bag to find one part of springs

missing... but to make things worse when placed on the bench all the springs varied in height, only thing I can assume were fitted but never run ,hence the compression resulting in the height loss...

as I say out of hundreds of purchases...the only 2 but from now on with check with a tooth comb .. any not correct will be returned ..

  5. only just read bills sad news of john , I like many had known him for many years , always chatting at tr events , the funniest being when we meet a few years ago at the triumph spares day in Coventry, when he said" you wont believe it theres another john saunders here,

here he is"!!! the second guy then pointed out theres another ,and before long there were 6 of us , was surreal all the same name and all triumph nuts,

once he were chatting about former employees of the Berkley sq garage and I happened to know one who lived just a mile away from me, and sent his phone number to john, sadly so many of our old register members are no more, johns passing is a loss to all his family and friends,

    john (saunders)

  6. I think we have all had problems when I first got my tr4 in the 70s I rebuilt the engine ,

but had a engine rebuilding company in bognor regis replace the cam shaft bearings they removed and replaced them ,

I got the block home replaced the retaining bolts , only to find they had not lined up the holes ,

took an hour at the trade counter before they agreed to replace the bearings at no cost to me , I explained fully to them about the oil way and locating holes , even leaving instructions on a A4,

  7. im in the process of replacing the panels around the boot of my tr3a and remove the remains of the glued in seal twin channels, as you cant buy the channels ill have to make up the channels and intend to replace with a single tr4 type seal, do I keep the distance of the channel the same as the outer fold? on the old ones...

  8. hi, I got mine from tr bitz, has a mini left hand drive rack , has a fitting kit , complete with instructions for fitting, you will need the adjustable top steering column, if not will be an extra cost for you , also you will need to fit a turn indicator, and new steering wheel,

  9. a few months ago someone was advertising new tr2/3 glove box lids , on ebay, for some reason its gone from my watch list,, maybe they remove after a certain time, any way does anyone know the guy whos making them? bound to be a tr enthusiast, I would be grateful if anyone can help, many thanks

  10. hi, when I had my crank scroll machined off to do the conversion, the machine shop in Southampton recommended 2 holes relieved with a counter sink, as shown in a photo

    further up as oil is not flung back into the sump ,but pools around the seal with pos leakage;

if this was a ill advised mod im sure we would have heard of components failing , as this mod has been around for over a decade

  11. hi peter , as one guy said all parts made in different factorys ,the days when you brought a stan part and they were all the same have long gone!!

I had 4 brand new pins all different tapers, a local machine shop reamed the shaft to fit the thickest pin , sorted it out, good luck

  12. have to be careful with the clutch plate, i brought a bargain new one at the triumph spares day, my fault for not giving it a good look over as it was one of 3 fingered plates, only noticed when placing it on my spares rack ,needless to say it went straight into the bin ,
