2023 may seem like a long way off yet, but the first tentative steps for the 2023 TRRSW, to be held in association with the Doune Historic Hillclimb on the 20th / 21st May (TBC), are underway.
For those TR Register members who have long memories, Doune was the venue for the very first and subsequent TRRSWs back in the 1980’s, so it is fitting that a return to Doune is made to mark fifty years of the TR Register in Scotland with the formation of the Clyde Valley Group in 1973.
The usual activities, to cater for as many tastes as possible, such as Saturday Road Tour, Saturday evening function plus the usual TR Concours and various other awards. Still to be confirmed is the possibility of a ‘Carkhana’ type competition, to include entrants from the other clubs participating at the Doune Historic. The irrepressible Graham Couser has intimated the possibility of an Historic Rally type event on the Saturday for those who want the challenge of something more than the Road Tour.
The exciting news is that the Doune Historic Hillclimb shall be a round of the TR Register Hillclimb Championship, the first time a round shall be held in Scotland, so it is hoped that some competitors from south of Hadrian’s Wall can make the trek north to take on the ‘King of Hills’. It is also hoped that some new competitors from Scotland shall also take on the challenge of Doune.
Doune is a great venue, centrally located with easy access and there are the added features of the Doune Antique Centre to spend some time perusing, a good restaurant on site and not to mention proper toilets. There is a huge selection of accommodation in the area, with Stirling and Callander only a few miles from Doune.
