CUMBRIA TR GROUPS YORKSHIRE DALES RUN WITH A NAVIGATION TWIST !

Here’s advance warning of Cumbria TR Groups tour round the Dales on the 4th September. For those that would like a challenge, we will issue the route on Friday 2nd of September. It will simply be a complete set of 6 figure grid references with some advice on the conditions you’re likely to meet an each leg and an initial direction. For those that would like a little more, I’ll issue the complete route at the start, together with photocopied maps or you can trust to the expertise of the navigator in the car in front. It’s a South to North run with the start closer to those in South Lakes and Lancashire and the finish to the North on the way to Penrith. For those accepting the challenge, you will need OS maps OL 2 and OL 30, and if you’re like me, reading glasses. It will take in the following Dales but not necessarily in this order:- Bishopdale, Arkengarthdale, Deepdale, Littondale, Barbondale, Wensleydale, Swaledale and Kingsdale. The route will be around 80 miles, some of it on very narrow single track roads maybe taking you to places which will be new to you with some stunning views, challenging hills and tight switchbacks. It’ll test your brakes, hill starts, reversing skills and cooling systems. With luck it won’t test your hoods! Briefing and start: the Barbon Inn, LA6 2LJ, 3 miles North of Kirkby Lonsdale, with bacon butties at 9.30, First car off at 10.00 Coffee, buns and late starters joining us at Country Harvest on the A65, LA62PE West of Ingleton at about 11.15 on. Lunch; sandwiches and chips at the Falcon Inn, Arncliffe BD23 5QE about 13.30 Finish ; Tea, coffee and drinks CB Inn, Langthwaite DL11 6EN. They would also do supper and a good room for the night but I would ask you to book these yourselves, and you’ll need to book. We’ll ask for numbers on the 2nd to that the Falcon can prepare enough food.

Run by Graham Dazell.
