Wessex Group - The Jurassic Coast - The Greatest Story on Earth By Richard Edmonds

The talk at our next meeting is by an eminent geologist, Richard Edmonds. He is a geologist whose life long interest was sparked by a walk on Charmouth beach as a boy many years ago. Having studied Geology at the University of Hull. and after briefly working in the North Sea oil industry, he became a countryside interpretation volunteer with the National Trust for Scotland on the Isle of Arran. In 1986 he returned to Dorset as warden of the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre. During the next 11 years he led countless numbers of people onto the local beaches of West Dorset in search of fossils. In 1997 Richard took up a new post as Jurassic Coast Project Officer with Dorset County Council, a role which gradually evolved into Earth Science Manager with the dual task of monitoring, managing and protecting the core interests of the World Heritage Site along with inputting geological expertise into the work undertaken by the team as a whole. Now retired from the Council, he is a freelance geologistist and a fascinating speaker, whose knowledge and insight into the jurassic coast is second to none. This is a talk not just for classic car enthusiasts, but for all members and their wives. So come along - 7.30 for 8.00 and don't forget, you can book a table for dinner at the Sir Walter Tyrell and eat before the talk.
