Wye Dean - A change of plan for the September event - note the new date & venue

The September event planned for Saturday 22nd has now been changed to Sunday 30th. The original visit planned to Clodock Mill in Longtown was problematic as the mill is only usually opened for pre-booked groups. Alan discovered that Raglan Castle will be holding an open day on Sunday 30th, and is offering to arrange our September event around a visit to this beautiful castle. See below his outline plan.

Raglan Castle NP15 2BT
Open 11am to 4pm. Admission free
Tours are timed at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, but presumingwe would like Sunday lunch somewhere it would seem best to arrive at the castle in time for the 11am tour, presumably finishing at 12'ish and arrive for lunch 1:00 to 1:30'ish.

Suggestion for meeting up for the journey to Raglan -
The Orangery at Speech House. Leaving 10:25. 16 miles via Coleford, Monmouth, A40 to Raglan.

The choice for venue for a meal depends on number of attendees
Smaller numbers possibly either:-
The White Horse Inn, Monmouth Road Staunton, Coleford GL16 8PA 01594 834001
http://www.whitehorseinnstaunton.com/
food served 12:00 to 6:00pm 11 miles - 15 minutes from Raglan.
or
The Inn at Penallt, Penallt NP25 4SE 01600 772765
https://www.theinnatpenallt.co.uk/
Food served 12:30 to 15:30 12 miles - 20 minutes from Raglan.

or
For a larger number -
Kilpeck Inn, Kilpeck HR2 9DN 01981 570464.
http://kilpeckinn.com/
food served Sunday 12:00 to 15:30pm 24 miles - 40 minutes from Raglan
or
La Piccola Italia 100 Monnow St, Monmouth NP25 3EQ 01600 712527
8 miles 15 minutes open till 11pm

The choice has to be made bearing in mind parking, and the necessity to book in advance so it's vital that Alan has a good idea of numbers interested as soon as possible. Contact Jeff Group Leader please, who'll pass on numbers to Alan. Further details will be available by the September group meeting at Harewood End on 19th, but numbers will be needed before then.

Once a venue has been settled on he'll work out a route to it from Raglan.
