TR Action 294
Devon Group - Report for TR Action
Hi, I'd better start with an apology; in the excitement of taking over the GL duties from Derek, I seem to have missed the deadline for the last TR Action.
Unfortunately, I need to start off with some very sad news. Pete Christie, a very popular and active member of our Group sadly passed away in September after a short fight with cancer. Pete was very knowledgeable about TRs and helped many members with their cars and with his wife Jane, organised many successful events and holidays for us over many years. He will be sadly missed.
Recent events
The Devon Group have been making the most of the summer and it's been lovely to see some new faces at these events. In July we enjoyed a lovely breakfast at the Old Walls Vineyard near Bishopsteignton, followed by a scenic drive and visit to the nearby National Trust's Castle Drogo, where a number of us visited the castle, the gardens and the tearooms. The following month, we met up for coffee at 'Hannahs at Seale Hayne', a lovely Grade 2 listed house and tea room followed by a scenic drive, led by our own TR Register Chairman, Phil Tucker, through the Devon lanes to The Smugglers Inn, Dawlish for a lovely carvery.
In September we attended the Thornfalcon Classic Car show, near Taunton, after meeting beforehand at the Rumwell Farm Café for – yes you've guessed it – another delicious cooked breakfast! As I write this, our October meeting is a couple of weeks off but we're assured of a lovely drive and lunch at the Keepers Cottage near Kentisbeare, another popular venue, being arranged by Roger & Maureen Stone.
Other than eating, I'm pleased to report that a number of Devon members are active with the spanners. Charles Marten is working away on his TR4A rebuild and John Blake has rebuilt and upgraded the front suspension and brakes of his TR4, with parts sourced at Lincoln IWE. John regularly thrashes his TR4 at track events alongside Phil Tucker in his TR3 and with their wives, will have had a go at the TR Register's Track Day at Castle Combe in October. Finally, we have a local expert panel beater, John Davey, performing some excellent bodywork reconstruction as he rebuilds his very early TR6.
If you're in the Devon Group but have not received information from me by emails, please could you let me have your email address. Thank you.
