Cleveland Group - Visit to the Heugh Battery Museum at Hartlepool
Cleveland Group will be visiting the Heugh Battery Museum on Sunday 19th May on the Headland at Hartlepool.
We will meet at the Wolviston Services (Postcode TS22 5PZ), just off the A19 at the A689 (Hartlepool) junction and then we can drive together, to the Headland in Hartlepool. The museum is open from 10.00 am until 4.00 pm and they have a café on the premises. We will meet at the services at 1030 am and leave at 1045 am. The museum staff have advised that there is to be a charity walk along the sea front during the afternoon which should attract quite a crowd. Please contact Allen Waller (07768 350462) if you wish to attend.
If you prefer to meet us at the museum, the post code is TS24 0PS.
Taken from the museum website:
The Heugh Battery Museum preserves the only First World War Battlefield in the UK and commemorates the Bombardment of the Hartlepools which took place on 16th December 1914. On site we have a reconstructed trench, lots of large artillery pieces and rifle collection. Our volunteers are very happy to give you a guided tour or answer any questions you have about the collection and the history of the museum site. We have a cafe serving delicious hot and cold food, the cakes and scones are all baked fresh on site. You can pop in to the cafe without visiting the museum. We are fully dog friendly in the museum and cafe, and hope to provide a great day out for you and your family.
