TR Action 308 - Red Rose Social Scene Report

Caroline says...

Well what should I start with! The football, the weather, or the IWE? The football speaks for its self I think and the weather has been nothing short of glorious although there is actually some of the wet stuff falling as I type. I just hope that the TR'S and their owners haven't all over heated! The jury is still out on the IWE!

There was a lot going on at Red Rose during June and July. The Wharfdale meeting was attended by quite a few of our members; it continues to grow each year and was once again a huge success. I am sure Simon would be very proud.

A number of us spent a very pleasant evening at The Plough and Flail courtesy of the MG Owners Club and Chris Briggs won the prize for best triumph with his newly restored TR4A

Lymm transport Festival was next on the agenda. This is a great event and if you go on YouTube you can see two Red Rose cars taking part in the parade where Jonathan Smith got the prize for the best Triumph in his TR4.

The IWE has once again ruffled a few feathers with mixed feelings regarding the venue, food and facilities. Not to mention the lack of trade stands. Numbers were definitely down once again and it remains to be seen what will happen next year.

Despite all this Red Rose members did us proud once again. In the Pride of Ownership category Laurie Wardle came first with his TR2 as did Mike and Carole Biddulph with their beautiful TR4A Brenda whose wheels were the envy of everyone! Jonathan Smith was the runner up in his TR4.

Peter Knapper was awarded runner up in the Masters category and he also won the judges choice award. Congratulations to them all!

Red Rose has now officially moved home and we had our first meeting at The Cock @ Budworth on the 8th July. It was a huge success with lots of regulars turning out to give their support and there were some new faces joining us for the first time. A warm welcome to you all and we hope to see you at another meeting or event very soon.

The new venue worked really well for us and the food, staff and service all met with approval. We had updates on forthcoming events and our usual raffle followed by a short run to The Seven Sisters Ice-cream Farm which proved very popular in the soaring temperature.

Some of our members were away on a "boys tour" to Le Mans.I believe a large quantity of beer was consumed and a good time was had by all but other than that I think it's a case of what happens in Le Mans stays in Le Mans!

Our summer run had been scheduled for Sunday 15th July but in anticipation of a world cup semi final that featured England we changed the day to the Saturday. Alas it was not meant to be for England but the run proved to be a real winner! Richard and Sian Chandler organised a great day for us, starting at The Rugg Estate where there was time for a coffee and some breakfast before setting off. We stopped off for lunch at The Chocolate House and then it was on to The Cai Dai 1950's Museum. This was a hidden gem! Very quirky and well worth a visit if you haven't been. We rounded off the day with a lovely meal in a thatched pub. Thanks to Sian and Richard for all their hard work.

Red Rose is your club and we want it to be open and inclusive. If you would like to be more involved or you have any suggestions for future events then please email us at trredrose@hotmail.com.
