Social Scene Report 306

Hi Fellow followers. Drive It Day (22nd April ) dawned bright and clear with wall to wall sunshine which persisted throughout the day. We met for coffee at the coffee shop in Wansford, there were 14 cars in attendance. We then drove some 62 miles to Woburn Abbey in Bedfordshire via an untaxing route on pleasant rural and uncrowded roads passing through some very attractive villages and past the historic air ship sheds at Cardington. These, I believe they were built in 1917 for the construction of Airships. They were large enough to house two Air ships and were the largest Sheds in the country. The famous R100 and R101 were built there and many of the air defence balloons. In recent times it has been home to the Airlander 10, which crash landed in 2016. All arrived at Woburn without incident except for Graham Wallis who suffered a fuel problem with his Stag, which turned out to be a fuel cut off valve failure which Graham promptly remedied.

Next was a good lunch in the restaurant and then a leisurely stroll through the lovely and extensive gardens, followed by a pleasant drive home. The day was enjoyed by all and we have Alan Burwood and George Whyment to thank for arranging it.

On 2nd May, we were kindly invited to revisit TRGB for a Cars On Lifts Inspection by Gary and Leanne Bates. Their team scrutinised some 10 cars for us ensuring they were indeed safe for the season. Hot drinks etc were provided with an option of Fish and Chips. (See attached Photo). The event was well supported and It was a nice get together for a little different evening..
