The small and beautiful island of Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea, just sixty miles from the coast Sicily. This tiny island with a population of just half a million is perhaps the last place you would think of as a pertrolheads paradise. The lack of motorsport facilities doesn’t stop the Maltese from putting on an annual four-day festival for adrenaline junkies, The Malta Classic, this year running from 10th-13th October and attracting a lot of UK interest. It consists of a Hillclimb on the rocky coast at Mtahleb, a swanky Style and Elegance show in the gorgeous and glitzy harbour at Valetta and the two-day Malta Grand Prix around the outside of the ancient city of Mdina, street racing the Maltese way.

British mid-century classic cars are big news in Malta and account for about sixty percent of the entries with majority of other cars mainly being Italian. Triumphs were well represented this year and performing particularly well and winning their classes were the 1960 TR3a of Joe Gerada and the 1969 TR6 of Frederick Ellul both scooping beautiful handmade glass trophies courtesy of event sponsor Mdina Glass. The event even attracted historic and Le Mans racing driver Alex Brundle son of former F1 and Le Mans winner Martin Brundle and TV presenter Paul Cowland famous for Salvage Hunters Classic Cars. The Malta Classic is an event well worth witnessing for its unique and special character.
