Simon Cowling writes: The first significant event of the year was our AGM, held at The South Wingfield Social Club. With the lure of mixed sandwiches, chips and salad on offer, members of the 42 attendees had the chance to vote. We are pleased to say that the incumbent experienced Management team were unanimously voted in, and to assist Sarah Southwell with her ever-increasing workload, I put myself forward as replacement Scribe.
With club affairs sorted and the imminent official start of spring, discussions quickly focused on projects and events.
John Browett’s TR 250, a full nut and bolt restoration which commenced in 2020 is due imminently. With advice from Steve Buxton a very patient and rewarding rebuild has been undertaken. (See phote of John's immaculate red TR250 rebuild)
Gerrard Barron finally replaced his TR6 seats with those from an MX5. He now grins every time he visits the car.
Martin Bloor with assistance from a club member, who allegedly has long fingers small hands and a lot of patience, fitted a burr elm dash and a pair of door capping’s to his beloved TR6. (See photo of Martin’s hansome new TR6 dashboard)
Chris Thirtle, with advice and encouragement from club stalwarts, removed and fitted his rewound alternator to his race prepared TR4 without taking the whole car apart, and with an enhanced service feels ready for this season’s events.
The first, a Regional one at The Motorist with sixteen converging from across our region. Three of us with Bella – Tony Hall’s canine map reader set off from the Peak District in low-level mist with tops down and heaters on. Once into “Gods Own Country” we were in glorious sunshine which lasted all day. Definitely one for a return visit.
Next up the Novice's Trackday at Castle Combe with five from our region. Three of us from the Peak District made it a three-day tour. Travelling through lovely countryside on A-B roads, which included the Foss Way, we certainly got a wriggle on. The track day was fantastic and Chris Thurtile is now hooked. On the sighting lap Bob Griffiths in his TR6 ignored the Chequered flag/Return to the pits and carried on for two extra laps because he was enjoying himself so much. Darren Salmon brought his TR6 with our personal mechanic Howard Jones who carefully tested all our cars.
With members spread right across our region, we will continue hosting two Club Nights per month and your raiding parties are most welcome.
