LVG go to the De Havilland Museum

LVG go to the De Havilland Museum

What a welcoming place the DH museum is.
Members, friends and a couple of Camb Follower members visited this wonderful museum on a lovely sunny day and were treated to a special TouR of the facilities.  The de Havilland Aircraft Museum near London Colney, was the first aviation museum in Britain, when it opened to the public on 15 May 1959, just 18 years after the Mosquito Night Fighter W4052 had been flown out of adjacent fields by Geoffrey de Havilland Jnr.

After refreshments on arrival we were free to wander the museum before a buffet lunch. After this we were given a guided tour by Phil Birtles, who has been associated with the museum for over 50 years and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things DH. Some exhibits are stored outside, but most are in the relatively new hanger, which was constructed with financial assistance from the National Lottery Fund. The bulk of the work is undertaken by very enthusiastic volunteers and much development is happening around the 25 acre site to make this a place to warrant a regular visit.
