The Group's mid-month evening meet on 12 August was a proper summer occasion — the annual BBQ, held at South Wingfield Social Club with a brilliant turnout of around 50 members, keen for burgers, good chat and a look under a few bonnets in the car park.

As always, the Wednesday night format kept things relaxed and welcoming, whether you arrived in a TR or, as ever, the odd MG. Anyone who registered early enough had a free burger and chips waiting for them.

The evening had an added bonus this month: a rare partial solar eclipse, visible low over the horizon, right in the middle of the BBQ. Tony came prepared with a stash of welding glass so everyone could watch safely, and the field behind the Social Club proved the perfect spot for it.

There was a bit of classic TR drama in the mix too. Tony's car had other ideas on the way back from collecting that welding glass, cutting out at a set of traffic lights with several gauges and lights failing at once. A bit of on-the-spot troubleshooting got the car moving again. It's the sort of story that always raises a knowing smile among owners who've been there themselves, and a good reminder of why swapping tips and know-how is such a big part of these club nights.

It was a great evening. Colin summed it up simply: "Thank you for an enjoyable evening." Penny shared a photo of the low sun glinting through a tree at the edge of the field, joking that the sun had been "eclipsed by the tree".
