We had our 50th anniversary barbecue early in August. The barbecue is actually an annual event, thanks to the generosity of one of our members, who invites us all to use a venue on his family farm. It was the perfect spot in the hot weather having shady trees and a perfect view over the River Thame. We were also treated to an extremely interesting farm walk. About 40 of us attended included a couple of welcome visitors from Kennet Valley. The well-equipped venue is a spot for local schools and under-privileged children to experience the countryside and the event raised £750 in donations to help the charity keep things running. As always the food and home-made cider were delicious – very many thanks to all who made it possible.
Chilterns can never resist a village show, especially if there’s cake to be had, and the tradition has been maintained throughout the summer. (The Chiltern WhatsApp group is called TREAD or TRs Eating and Drinking, which sets the scene nicely.)
The entry to Car Club Fest (still thought of as the International Weekend by many of us!) this year was hugely improved from last year and we were treated to a great display of other marques – TRs, Jaguars and Morgans especially were all out in force. Wayne once again showed his expertise in commentary in the main ring and by the end of the weekend must surely have almost lost his voice. There were not a lot of Chilterns present and not all of those that did attend managed to bring a TR – but that’s another story!
Our thoughts are now turning to Kop Hill in September where every year we have the largest stand with at least 30 TRs on display. This year is slightly different as for our anniversary we have been offered a spot to parade up the hill with TR2 to TR8 in the display. This means our club stand will be slightly smaller as the parade cars will be elsewhere in the paddock. Food will feature prominently on the stand with a breakfast and lunch barbecue plus afternoon tea and donated cake each day (no shop-bought cakes permitted!) Each year we have raised a substantial sum in donations for a nominated charity over the weekend.
