London Group - Social Scene for TR Action 362

I’m sorry to start this report with some sad news – Alan Jones, London Group Treasurer and enthusiastic TR3a driver passed away in February.

Alan was a staunch TRLG member who was a regular attendee at meetings and events, the first name on the list for overseas trips (which he was always keen to promote and help organise). He was an invaluable committee member and treasurer for some 12 years. Alan was a driver, not a polisher, and was a regular visitor to France in his TR, participating in the Laon Historique (a favourite of his) and attending events such as Classic Le Mans and Angouleme Circuit de Remparts.

A real character and ’a good egg’ who was always good company. He will be sorely missed by us all and the committee members in particular. Our thoughts go out to all his friends and family. His cheerful nature and appetite for ice cream will be missed by all who knew him.

2026 started with our annual trip to Brooklands for their New Year’s Day Classic Gathering. A dry but cold morning meant we rustled up 19 cars (18 TRs and Stuart Minster’s lovely Dolomite Sprint) for our short run to Brooklands, where we parked up in the Motoring Village. We were then joined by other TR groups and ended up with 30 TRs and Triumphs parked up. It was a record breaking day for Brooklands, their best ever New Year's Day - over 8,100 visitors and 1,200 classic cars, motorcycles, modern sports and supercars.

Since then, we have also had our annual visit to The Weir Hotel in Walton-on-Thames – the site of the first London Group meeting.

A very wet January and February means our members have been busy fettling and servicing their TRs - we are all looking forward to some sunshine!
