Paul Holtom and Phil Horsley decided that what was really needed was another KVG expedition to evaluate potential shows for next year, so Phil's trusty Grinnall was pressed into service and the pair headed off to the Concorde Classic Show at Eastleigh.

Now in its 17th year, the Concorde Classic Show is a well-established event and, importantly, one that does some good as well as providing plenty of entertainment for petrolheads. The show has raised an impressive £164,000 for charity up to last year, so there's certainly a good reason to part with the entrance fee!

Once inside, there was a great selection of cars to wander around. As you'd expect from a classic car show, there was a bit of everything, from the small and perfectly formed Fiat 500 to some seriously exotic machinery.

And then there was the Koenigsegg CCR.

With only 14 ever produced, this was certainly not something you see every day. The Swedish-built supercar packs a 4.7-litre Ford V8 and famously held the title of world's fastest production car until Bugatti came along and stole its crown. Even better, visitors had the chance to win being driven four laps around  Silverstone circuit in this incredible machine. Now there's a prize that might make the journey home rather difficult afterwards!

There were plenty of other interesting cars to look at, along with a selection of stalls. There wasn't an autojumble, so don't turn up expecting to spend the afternoon rummaging through boxes of mysterious bits that you've convinced yourself you'll need one day. However, there was still plenty to see and enjoy.

One of the highlights of the day was the presentation of the Classic Car of the Show award. A very well-deserved winner was a British Racing Green MG Metro, which had been superbly restored. It was a great example of how a much-loved everyday car can be transformed into something really special with the right amount of care and attention.

Overall, it was a really good show and a worthwhile day out, particularly knowing that the event is raising money for charity at the same time.

So, if you're thinking of making the trip in a future year, keep an eye out for the adverts and book early. It's clearly a popular event, and with good cars, good company and money going to a good cause, it's well worth putting on the KVG calendar.
