Our new “Lunch Club” launched with 20 people heading to East Sussex to a great little pub near to Cuckmere Haven, a famous area for walkers and the early Windows Software screen saver, for those techies out there. Answers on a post card etc. Roger & Caroline did a great job in booking up the pub and arranging the drive down from Surrey, I followed up with collecting everyone’s food choices to make it easy for the chef.
So, with such incredible organisation nothing could go wrong, except of course if the chef goes down, potentially, with Covid. Now many pubs would just say sorry, but not in this case, free drinks offered to all and an alternative venue, in Alfriston, booked and organised for us all. Not sure the residents of the sleepy hotel were ready for the TR’s arriving in the car park, but the hotel did their best to accommodate us.
So, it was a near perfect successful, first ‘club lunch’ trip, with a big thankyou to The Plough & Harrow in Litlington, we will be back. If you go there, check out the Longman Brewery, 300 yards away, where their beer comes from.
We decided to move our end of December meeting, to the 2nd January, as meeting up on Boxing Day is not always easy when you have families round for Christmas. The meeting was well supported by TR’s and the local horse group, I won’t say ‘hunt’, as the couple of hounds present looked like they might need a taxi to get home. The only problem was the fact that they filled up the car park, leaving some TR’s stranded on the road, and others unable to leave. When we could leave it was a bit of an obstacle course, trying to avoid the donations the horses had left the pub car park. But, of course, the roses will look good this year.

Our regular meetings are at the Stepping Stones pub in Westhumble, Dorking (RH5 6BS) on the third Wednesday of each month from 20:00 and our Sunday lunchtime meetings on the last Sunday of the month at the Surrey Oaks (RH5 5DZ), starting at 12:00.
