Having recovered from Malvern, Janet and I went on to CarFest South, held on Jody Scheckter’s farm near to Basingstoke on August Bank holiday weekend. Thanks to Phil Horsley & Wayne for organising the TR Registers stand which turned out to be the first thing the public saw as they entered the main gates. A lot of interest was show in the cars and particularly Daniel’s Electric TR6.

Just after the August Bank holiday, we held our delayed 50th celebration with over 85 people attending a BBQ. More of this in a separate article. Big thanks to Darryl Uprichard for travelling down from Gainsborough for the event.

September kicked off with a Car Show at East Horsley Towers a new event, which combined a perfect village green fair, with a great classic car show, all in the grounds of a spectacular hotel. We had some 30 triumphs in attendance and the organisers were kind enough to give us a large area under the trees. Parking under the tree’s would, under normal circumstances, be like a red rag to a bull, for owners who had spent hours polishing their cars. Tim Hill, in his gleaming TR8, was a little taken aback. However, the sun shone like it had not been let out for a while, and every other car owner cooked in the heat, while we all sat under the tree’s eating our ice creams. Could not have been a better day.

Due to the event having been moved it clashed with the Shere hill climb which meant that Steve Roberts TRS arrived later on. It was Steve and Julia’s first hill climb, and despite the heat, they enjoyed it.

Yvonne and Alan Charlwood have been attending the Laon Historic meeting in France, where not many Brits have made the crossing. Hopefully Geraldine, their Green TR6, has been performing well.

End of September’s meeting down the Surrey Oaks brought another record number of attendees on what was an excellent day for the weather.

So, it is that time of year, where thoughts of entering the garage come around. I am about to take the rear suspension apart, Gareth has, self-taught, himself Metering Unit calibration and has fixed that strange hesitancy his TR6 has been exhibiting. Jane Mould is getting a new TR6 roof, Stephen Thorne is hopefully going to fix that temperature gauge issue, Colin Smith’s dashboard will be finished soon. Steve Martin is applying another coat of wax to Terence, and Alan Kent is cracking on with his major TR2 restoration. But I am sure there is a lot more going on out there.

Happy Autumn everyone.

Our regular meetings are at the Stepping Stones pub in Westhumble, Dorking (RH5 6BS) on the third Wednesday of each month from 20:00 and our Sunday lunchtime meetings on the last Sunday of the month at the Surrey Oaks (RH5 5DZ), starting at 12:00.
