Our “unplanned” visit to the Surrey Oaks on April 25th became a massive hit with over 20 TRs in a packed car park. Despite a weather forecast that looked like it was going to be a cold day turned into warm and sunny one, which helped as we were all outside in the garden.

Really good to see some familiar faces along with people we don’t normally get to see. Thanks to David Darley who travelled from Farnborough, a journey of about an hour, in his yellow TR6, also Stephen Thorne in his excellent White TR6. Bob Le Brocq’s car is getting some exercise following a major engine rebuild and we all had the opportunity to see John Summerskill’s newly purchased beautiful red Jag. David, from the Windsor Forest Group, came along to check us out, being a neighbour of Mervyn in Guildford. You read it correctly- the centre of Guildford is part of Windsor Forest, joy of modern technology.

Finally, we have been able to go on a formal trip to the beach, not that any of us were up for a dip, and for what seems like forever our TVG flag was erected. 6 Cars headed for West Wittering, to be joined briefly by Ed King, who was really on the way to the pub. It is amazing that with a relatively large empty space, we were approached by two TR drivers asking questions about the cars and the club, something about old British Classic cars that attract people.

A big thank you to Steve Martin who was unable to join our trip to the beach as he had to work, something about tax and paying for retired people!

Activities are picking up with over 20 cars going to the Weald & Downland Museum, in July, spurred on by the “Repair Shop” on TV.

Tim is planning a trip to Classics on the Green at Hampton Court, assuming it is a dry day. Good luck Tim.

This months’ picture comes from 1973 and shows Bob Lebrocq’s car getting a suitable send-off treatment at his wedding. Did the paint work ever recover? Mike Moffatt did chuckle on the day, until he found his car had been equally vandalised!

Our monthly meeting end of May meeting at The Oaks looks like it is going to be busy, especially as the weather may have finally turned.

Our regular meetings are at the Stepping Stones pub in Westhumble, Dorking (RH5 6BS) on the third Wednesday of each month from 20:00 and our Sunday lunchtime meetings on the last Sunday of the month at the Surrey Oaks (RH5 5DZ), starting at 12:00.
