Red Rose Bulletin - June 2022

Red Rose Bulletin - June 2022

Hello everyone

It’s that time again! Let’s hope June lives up to its name and is indeed flaming! We could all certainly do with some sunshine! The Platinum Jubilee is certainly a good excuse for a few days off and run out in the TR so whatever your up to enjoy!

MAY ROUND UP

Traws Weekend

Six Red rose cars stayed at the Metropole Hotel for what proved to be a very enjoyable weekend. There was a definite feeling of things getting back to normal as we all enjoyed being out in the cars and socialising together in the evening. We drove on some interesting roads and even managed a trip on a steam train and a visit to an iron works. One car had to have push start on the Saturday morning due to a flat battery but a quick pit stop at Halfords for a new one and we were back on track! Yes, it was us! We are already looking forward to next year!

Gawsworth Hall Classic Car Show

The May bank holiday saw the first outing for the new gazebo and 16 Red Rose cars turned out for the event which is a bit of a record! One member even got up early to drive home from the Traws weekend in order to be there! Now that’s dedication for you! I hope he gave Brenda a rest the next day!

May Meeting

It was business as usual for our May meeting as we were once again back in our room at The Cock @ Budworth.

Not much has changed apart from some new staff and a new menu which didn’t go down well with everyone. There were no complaints about the quality of the food but unfortunately it is now only a Sunday menu and they don’t offer sandwiches. The prices have also gone up but are comparable to other pubs in the area.

At this point in time the menu alone is not a reason to try and change venue with all the stress that would involve so for the meantime we are staying put but we will feed back comments regarding the new menu to the new tenant.

It was a busy meeting and we had some new members join us so warm welcome to Graham and Cheryl who we hope will be back!

A few old members made a welcome return to Red Rose and it was great to meet Hugh and also Steve and his lovely family. I believe Steve has been a member since he was about 12 when he used to come with his dad. 3-year-old Olive definitely stole the show and her beautiful sister who is probably our youngest member at 3 weeks old slept through the whole thing!

Jonathan gave us updates on upcoming events and we rounded off things with the usual raffle before setting out on a short run to Bidlea for an ice cream, if you haven’t visited yet we can highly recommend the blackcurrant and liquorice flavour! The views over to Jodrell Bank are also pretty impressive!

Visit To Bodnant Gardens

9 Red Rose cars met up at Rhugg Estate on Sunday 29th May ready for a run to Bodnant Gardens. The weather didn’t start off too great and those of us daft enough to go topless were soon pulling over to hastily put the roofs back on!

We were treated to some great driving roads with spectacular views. If you haven’t done so already have a look at the Instagram video that Sian and Richard’s daughter in law Samara made. (it’s on the Facebook page) It’s very good and our TR4 has a starring role!

On arrival at Bodnant most of us headed to the café for some lunch before spending a lovely afternoon walking round the amazing gardens in the sunshine which did eventually put in an appearance.

The Laburnum Arch was just as impressive as everyone says it is and you could easily spend all day in the gardens as there is so much to see so well worth a visit.

Most of us then headed off to St Asaph for an evening meal before making our way home.

It was a long day but well worth the early start and late finish Thank you to Richard and Sian for organising such a wonderful day for us in between babysitting duties!

Tatton Park Classic Car Spectacular 4th- 5th June

Booking for Tatton is now closed and you should have received your tickets in the post.

We have 22 cars booked in for the Sunday and we shall be having an afternoon tea to celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee. We shall also be giving out some prizes! You never know it could be you so get polishing that paintwork! Why not dress in red white and blue in honour of the occasion!

Antrobus Car Run And Red Rose Meeting Sunday 12th June

We received the email below from the organisers of this event and as a group we have decided to combine the run with our monthly meeting. So next month WE WILL NOT BE AT THE PUB!!!!

If you would like to join us on the run you are very welcome or you can come along afterwards and have a picnic with us where we will do a shortened version of our usual meeting.

EMAIL FROM ORGANISER

We have been working on plans for the 2022 Car Run. As you know it is on SUNDAY 12 JUNE.

We are trying the later start and pub lunch again this year - but with a twist! As it has proved hard to find a pub to work with for lunch and a concours on a Sunday, we have decided on a circular run, starting and ending in Antrobus.

The plan will be to register at Antrobus Village Hall between 11 to 11.15 am, collecting your printed run, leave about 11.15am and enjoy the run. You can then:

EITHER bring a picnic and enjoy it on the field by the cars and the Village Hall. There will be toilets available but no indoor facilities in the event of inclement weather.

OR book a table for lunch at the Antrobus Arms direct with them. Their online booking system and sample menus are at www.antrobusarms.co.uk. The Arms can seat about 66 indoors and have some outside tables too. They know we will be booking and all tables are free at present. I think we will be back about 1pm. The run will as usual be about 60 miles - and we know some of you take short cuts- so you will need to judge a safe booking time!

We will have a concours judging at the Village Hall about 3pm. We will have 3 classes - Pre-War, Post War and Sports Car (any age). There will be prizes........very kindly donated by some participants for the 2020 Run that never happened!

We have previously raised funds for Village projects through the Run. This year we are asking for a donation of £5 for the run (more if you want) to raise funds for PAPYRUS. This Warrington based charity (www.papyrus-uk.org) is dedicated to suicide prevention and promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. After the impact of the pandemic on young people this seems a worthy cause. Cash would be simplest please.

TS2 Round Britain Tour 23rd-25th June

The intention is to cover the full region to provide everyone an opportunity to join in. To achieve this we are proposing to start in the South on Thursday, the middle of the region on Friday and finishing in the North on Saturday. The proposed itinerary is as follows.

Proposed Itinerary

Thursday 23rd June

We will be collecting TS2 from North Wales group on the 23rd June and we shall be meeting in the evening at The Cock @ Budworth (time to be confirmed) where members can come and have the opportunity to take the car out on a short run in the local area. Our usual meeting room will be available for us to gather in and have a drink and some food if you so wish.

Friday 24th June

It is hoped that we can arrange a run that would incorporate some of the original “1954 RAC British International Rally” which resulted in TR2’s sweeping the board with overall 1st, 2nd and 5th place finishes, winner in the Ladies class, stage winners at Blackpool and Hastings and top three places in sports car class up to 2.6lts. Not a bad result! The intention is to recreate some of the route through Lancashire with a stop off point and a second opportunity for members to take TS2 out for a short run.

If anyone can help us to track down one of original routes through Lancashire, can you please get in touch.

Saturday 25th June,

We hand TS2 over to Cumbria group and the plan is to do a run to the Lakeland Motor Museum where we will then hand TS2 over and you will have a chance to look around the museum. For those who have not been before it is well worth a visit!
