Red Rose Bulletin - February 2020

RED ROSE FEBRUARY BULLETIN

Our first meeting of the year was also the AGM and we had quite a turn out with a full meeting room at the Cock at Budworth! Thank you to everyone who turned up and we hope that you will be joining us for the events meeting on the 16th February – Please note February meeting has moved from the usual second Sunday of the month to 16th February to avoid a clash with TR / MG spares day at Stoneleigh - Refer to February meeting details below for more information.

February Events meeting 16th February at The Cock at Budworth

If you only come to one meeting a year this is possibly the one to come to as your opinion will count in shaping what we do in 2020 and also 2021.

The new events team are hoping as many of you as possible will be able to attend the events meeting on the 16th February as this is the one to be at to get all the latest news and details of upcoming events.

The Red Rose 2020 Events schedule will be available together with booking forms for shows and events including updates on regular events and a few new ones for 2020.

We already have a band of volunteers for monthly runs and a short list for Drive It Day, Summer Run and Autumn Leaves destinations together with some new and exciting suggestions for new / additional events. Not to mention the North West joint group plans for the TR Register 50th anniversary celebration event which is planned for the August bank holiday weekend.

If you can’t make February’s events meeting but would like to contribute in any way which could range from a simple suggestion for an event you would like including in our schedule up to volunteering to help or run an event email Jonathan / Caroline at trredrose@hotmail.com.

We have had had a couple of new volunteers who don’t manage to attend the monthly meetings so don’t be shy - We promise you a warm welcome

In addition to all of this we will be providing feedback on the 2020 questionnaires completed at the AGM. Red Rose is changing and growing as a club, your feedback is always appreciated.

AGM / JANUARY MEETING

The January meeting got underway with Jonathan giving a light hearted summary of the year. I am sure that everyone who was at the meeting would agree that there are a lot of opportunities for everyone at Red Rose with a wide selection of events throughout the year and if you haven’t already done so please take some time to look at the Red Rose Ramblings 2019 annual on face book or on the TR register Red Rose web page to see what we got up to in 2019.

YOUR RED ROSE 2020 COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The Red Rose committee members have changed from last year with new volunteers being unanimously voted for by all of those in attendance.

New Deputy Group Leader and editor Red Rose TR Action reports

Richard Chandler has stepped up taking on the roll of deputy group leader, replacing Tim Davies, and will also be taking over production of the Red Rose TR Action report with Caroline Smith standing down after a four year sterling service in this role. Richard will be aided by his wife Sian in both roles.

Events and Shows

Bernard Hayward has volunteered to join the events team and assist with the show bookings for Tatton Park with Chris and Sandra taking a break after many years of service. Bernard is a regular at monthly meetings and always attends Tatton in his TR6. If you have ever wondered why the Red Rose Tatton stand has immaculately manicured grass it’s Bernard who is partly to be thanked for this.

New Member’s Secretary

Dave Roberts has taken over the role of new members Secretary from Tim Davies. Dave was former deputy leader for Bob Eccles and is ideally placed for the role being a well known Red Rose member.

I’m sure we would all thank our new volunteers for their contribution to the group and wish them all their best in their new roles.

Treasurers Report

John Leleu presented a summary of the club accounts for 2019 and reported that last year’s aim of maintaining the club funds at a sustainable level has been achieved with some success.

Expenditure in 2020 is anticipated to be similar to 2019 with the potential of some additional funding being available to assist with the August bank holiday weekend North West groups TR Register 50th anniversary celebration event.

Red Rose Who’s Who?

We had one final volunteer of the day, Mike and Pauline Grimes, who were handed over a rather old A4 folder containing pictures and details of past and present Red Rose members with some members now looking a little different than they did when their pictures were taken some time ago! Mike and Pauline volunteered to take on the role of updating the book which we will have at future meetings.

Phil Moss, our web editor, has a similar feature on the TR Register Red Rose web page and it is well worth a visit with some interesting pictures of members and their cars.

If you would like your details including in the Red Rose Who’s Who book or the TR Register Red Rose Web site please email you details and pictures of your car to Jonathan / Caroline at trredrose@hotmail.com

Red Rose 2019 Awards

Once the formalities of the AGM was over the meeting quickly moved onto the main event of the day - The 2019 Red Rose Awards.

Mike Conry Plate

Voting was very tight for the best run of the year with nine runs to choose from.

The Winners were John and Jane Leleu for the Isle of Wight week – John and Jane will have their work cut out to improve on this with this year’s Scotland Trip!

Tim and Karen Davies just missed out receiving second place for the Drive It Day run to RNLI Hoylake – Another run which will be hard to beat in 2020!

If you have a place you would like to visit in 2020 or would like to organise an event or short run after the monthly meetings email Jonathan /Caroline at trredrose@hotmail.com or joint us at the events meeting on Sunday 16th February.

Red Rose Cup

The Red Rose Cup was awarded to John and Anne Thorpe in recognition of Anne’s charity initiatives and also the support John and Anne continue to provide to the group organising two events last year.

New Contributors Award

This is a relatively new award for members who have for the first time made a contribution to the club. This year the award was presented to Keith Nuttall who took on the role of organising a new event in 2019 – Red Rose attendance at The Bunbury Village Fete and also the Lion Salt Works Vintage Festival run.

Red Rose Group – Club / Marquee Promotion Award

Another relatively new award for members who have promoted the group and the TR Register / marquee. This year’s Club Promotion Award was presented to Michael Biddulph who won not one but three awards at the 2019 TR Register International in his well used and well kept Triumph TR4A and also for his contributions to the Red Rose Facebook group, TR Resister Forum and his work on the events committee over the last few years – Not to mention a large cup won at Moffat Car show and a more modest award at the Lymm Transport Festival. Michael received some liquid refreshment to share with Carole who helps him in everything TR related.

Red Rose Award for support of the group in a particular activity

This awarded was presented to Sue Wilde for her charity work over the last year. Anyone who has attended one of our monthly meetings will know what a contribution Sue and the other female members of the group have made supporting women in Africa.

Broken Spanner Award

There was a bumper list of contenders this year for the broken spanner award all fulfilling the requirement of failure to proceed on at least one occasion, some more than once!

  • Area Director Bob Eccles
  • Group leader Jonathan and Caroline Smith
  • Ken Harrison
  • John Leleu
  • Pete Napper

After much consideration and debate including a little bit of leg pulling our Area Director Bob Eccles was unanimously voted for as the winner of the 2019 Red Rose Broken Spanner Award.

Red Rose Facebook Group Prize Draw

This year’s Facebook prize draw was won by Tony Shearin, a worthy winner who regularly contributes to the facebook group and has supported the Tatton Park event for too many years to remember and annually organises a trip to Classic Le Manns and SAP Classic. A Moss voucher is winging it was to Tony which I am sure will be quickly spent on his TR6.

Second place was awarded to Ian Wilde with Ian talking home a box of chocolates.

We will be running the facebook draw again next year and to ensure you are eligible to enter you need to place a posting on the face book page in 2020.

The ongoing commitment and help of the following members was also noted and appreciated by the committee team

  • Andrew Haywood for his contribution organising Car Fest North Red Rose / TR Register stand over the last few year.
  • All those who have contributed by knitting squares for blankets in support of the women’s refuge - Not many male members helped with this!
  • All those who have donated bras in aide of women in Africa - Again not many male members helped with this!
  • Audrey Foster, Doreen Smith and Jill Dyson for helping out with the raffle in Mike and Pauline’s absences.
  • Everyone who managed to find time to come along to at least one event or more in 2019

The meeting was closed by Jonathan who once again thanked everyone who has supported the club and attended events over the last year and concluded that with everyone’s continued support the club will continue to grow and offer a wide range of opportunities for all.

Red Rose Ramblings 2019 Annual

Red Rose Ramblings 2019 Annual is now available to download on the TR Register Red Rose website and also on the Red Rose Facebook page. If you haven’t already read this year’s annual it is well worth a read and you may even be mentioned!

We will be announcing event details and updates through the year on the Facebook page and all TR Register members are encouraged to join and share details of their cars and events they have attended.
