TR Action London Group report for issue 356

Soc.Sec.David Boucher writes: For various reasons, we have been very tardy in submitting reports for the social scene to the magazine, so this one is going to have to cover a lot of ground! The autumn for the club was as busy as ever with our two monthly Club meetings at the Star in Leatherhead and Woodies in New Malden, the latter being a slightly controversial choice with some members! However, we still get a good turnout with lots of TR’s weather permitting.
We had lots of requests for drive-outs as well as shows so we tried to facilitate this in the autumn with two more of our ‘new for 2024’ Wrinklies Mid-Week Pub Lunch Drive-out where those of us lucky enough to be retired could meet up with our cars at a country pub for lunch, and very successful they were too with a good turn-out. These events tend to be finalised a few days beforehand so as to take the weather into account. In a similar vein we had three Sunday morning breakfast meet-ups at Newlands Corner, all on days where the TRs could be given an airing. We also had our annual fish-and-chip-run to Billy’s on the Beach restaurant at Bracklesham Bay on a sunny but very windy day, again with a good turnout.
Talking of weather, a few members braved the atrocious weather at the Goodwood Revival with true British stoicism!
The December highlight was our Christmas Party which always is a fun event with a great atmosphere, ending with the annual awards ceremony as follows:- The Club Award for service above self went to John Collins for offering up his house (and front garden!) for two very early morning rendezvous prior to going on to events, with hospitality and geniality. The Piston From Above Award for the worst luck went to Dave Rackham who had his TR involvement curtailed by a friend falling in top of him on a night out and breaking his leg in several places. The TR Nut award went to Russell Newall for his heroic re-building of his carburettors … several times! The Dipstick Award went to yours truly for getting everyone present to search for his car keys at Newlands Corner when they were on the table 2 yards away!
2025 started with the Brooklands Meeting as always on a chilly and blustery day that turned to drizzle mid-morning, but we still had a good turnout with 11 cars. That weather turned out to be a pre-curser to an awful couple of months where our cars rarely saw the light of day but spring is springing and there’s a lot to look forward to with more drive-outs (subject to weather), The TR-LG AGM on 3rd April, the TR-LG Clay Pigeon Shoot on 11th April, the Brooklands Easter Gathering on 19th April and Drive-It Day on 27th April.
