Glavon Group Walk, Calne - 2nd February 2025

After so much dull weather, is was great to have perfect sunny skies for the Glavon Walk which started with coffee at the Lansdowne Strand Hotel in Calne. The walk took us via Castlefields Canal and River Park, following the River Marden to Blackdog Halt, a long disused station on the old Chippenham to Calne railway line.

Beyond Black Dog Halt the walk continued along the old railway formation before retracing our steps and continuing on the railway path back to Calne and the remains of the Calne canal branch which originally terminated at the wharf close to Hotel where we started. Most people then opted for an additional walk to The Green and through ancient streets with their array of impressive historic houses and other buildings many of which were built from the proceeds of the once flourishing wool trade.

It was then back to the Lansdowne Strand Hotel for and excellent lunch. Our thanks go to Jim and Penny for arranging a great day out with great weather! More photos in the Gallery.
