EasTRiding Social Scene Report for October 2019

Well, as announced in TRA 317, we headed off for Corsica in the 3A to join others from the Triumph Club de France. Somewhere on the edge of Cannes the back-axle failed in a major fashion. So, we have been exploring in hire cars, etc. provided by the breakdown people. We did manage to catch up with everyone else on the ferry. Out of 25 cars, 6 had problems, so our extra seats in the hire cars came into their own.

Sunday 6th October was the Group’s first event after we got back from Corsica without the TR. So, we were in the Midget. However, several couples turned up in their saloon cars as this must have been the wettest event in a long time. Congratulations to Shane & Chrissie Foster for re-jigging their Autumn Leaves run just the day before the event, and for going ahead with it. We had nine cars turn out for this one, including three saloon cars (one of which had two couples). Well done everyone for coming along on a very wet day. The cars waded through floods and mud running off fields before we even got to the start. Some of the water was pretty deep, allegedly up to the bottom of the Midget’s doors, which I can quite believe. We also got held up by no less than three trains. Having initially taken us off north through Sledmere & Kirkham, we stopped for a coffee break at Castle Howard Arboretum. We continued on through Hovingham & Easingwold to the Aldwark Toll Bridge, before a finish at The White Swan, Wighill, Tadcaster. Well done Shane & Chris. The leaves had certainly turned Autumnal, whilst there was sufficient flood water to wash most of the mud off the cars.

The 3A eventually made it back home after 5 weeks and a day, with a soaked interior, broken rear light and scars on the door sill. The hand-brake was disconnected to save someone learning how a “fly-off” handbrake worked. Plus, of course, a broken rear-axle.
