EasTRiding Social Scene Report for March 2018

Sunday 18th March should have been our Cobwebs run, to blow the cobwebs out of our TRs. It got snowed off, although locally it seemed clear. Andy & Marlene Newton were organising their first run for us, so tough on them for their first attempt at organizing an event for us. It is common sense, but it is each individual who must decide what is safe for them. You are in charge of your own cars and responsible if things go wrong. If you cannot cope with conditions then do not proceed. Rob Leonard had been intending showing off his new TR6 to everyone on this run. I’d known about it for some time. Mary was heading across to Ireland on the Leeds – Dublin flight. At Leeds she felt a tap on her shoulder only to discover it was Rob. Later, on the plane she found Rob was in the next seat. Rob showed her pictures of his new TR6 on his phone. He normally attends in a very nice TR7, that had been his father’s in South Africa, which Rob had repatriated. It is already Spring! Watch out for Jim Howie’s car in a magazine that was looking for a surrey-topped TR4 to photograph on the Moors. Wednesday 21st March we had TR visitors from the Netherlands. We know Jan & Anna van Asperen from meeting them at events around Europe, with their black TR4A. They were over on family business and promised to call. We ate out with them on the Wednesday night. Jan wanted to see the National Railway Museum in York, so we took them there and around York (which they’d seen before) on the Thursday, before showing them around Beverley. Sunday 25th March was Andy & Marlene Newton’s rearranged March Cobwebs run. We had a dozen cars blowing the cobwebs out. The weather was lovely & sunny with very clear vibility, so the views were fantastic. We made our way through Sledmere, Rillington, Sheriff Hutton, Hovingham & Helmsley, waving to a large number of newish Morgans going the other way. Then we went through Kirbymoorside for Thornton-le-Dale and a coffee stop. After that we headed over the Moors to The Stables Farmhouse Grill, Cross Butts Farm for lunch, near the Park + Ride on the A171 coming into Whitby. The Stables is a bit Tardis-like, with lots more room inside, good food and Black Sheep. This was Andy & Marlene’s first run for the Group. Well done Guys.
