Alan Ford says:

Hello once again, to one and all. By the time you read this we will be heading towards frosty mornings, and once started the gritting season in Derbyshire will continue, when necessary, until the end of March. So, if October is a good 'un and you've still got your TR on the road, make the most of these last sunny days!

Firstly, though, we have to regret the passing away of John Saunders. John was a Derbyshire Dales member from some years back and many of our longer-serving members will remember John and wish to send their condolences to his family.

In terms of recent activities, I think phew! best describes a very busy end-of-summer in our neck of the woods. The Derbyshire Dales Group had seven cars with thirteen members at the European TR Meeting in Dijon. Three of these members – plus two from Leicester – took the long route via Andorra and Spain, pretty much all in aid of calling at one of Roger Guy's old 'stamping grounds' in Tossa de Mar. We presume that the bar and the beer were worth the trip! Meanwhile compliments have to be passed to the French team who organised the Euromeet. The location was excellent, the tours and places of interest well planned, the food and drink exceptional, and the sight of well over 100 TRs parked in the Holiday Inn car park a sight to behold. As our photograph shows. All this was well worth the braving of a 'Force Nine' crossing of the North Sea and English Channel in order to get home!

Besides this trip we have had members attending the Tatton Park Classic Car Show, the Lakes Weekend, and the many various classic car shows taking place in our immediate region. Dave Burgess' TR5 and Darren Salmon's TR6 will have featured in an article in Classic Car Weekly. Dave's TR5 is due to be placed on the TR Register stand at the NEC Classic Car Show in November. Just before the publication of this magazine our last run of the season will have taken place at the beginning of October and the Leicester raiders will, once again, probably have lifted the winning place in our autumn quiz hosted by John and Lynne Biggin.

Of significant interest in our area is an initiative by TR Enterprises. They have been working with RH Classics to produce a recreation of the aluminum-bodied Triumph SLR and have the first completed shell using TR running gear in their workshops. If you fancy ordering one, you will be fourth in line. If I win the lottery in the meantime, you will be fifth.

In terms of forthcoming events please keep looking at the Derbyshire Dales webpages; Alan Jones is continually updating and revising these, and posting information regarding forthcoming events. Mention of which, once again we are hosting the National Spring Ball at the Casa Hotel: keep watching Alan's webpages for more information. Finally, please submit your Derbyshire Dales Annual Award forms to Dave Burgess with your nominations for Best Contributor/Best Run/Outstanding Contribution/Nut of the Year.
